working original hdd necesary??

read through the tutorials, and looked through other sites, but can't seem to find the asnwer, since the tutorials are usually done on new, working xbox.

my xbox (v 1.0, bought used) fragged, gave an error code, and found it was hdd timeout..... can't even get to the load screen,just goes to the error...

my question is does the hard drive need ot be working? or can i put a new one in and a mod chip (xecuter 3, of course), then work it out from there?? baciically i want to open it up, throw in a new hard drive and install a modhip in one job, without ever requiring the original xbox hard drive to be used.....is it possible....


sorry, i know it sounds like a n00b question, and i should pay more attention, but i use to "troll" the forums (never really registered to post, registered a differn't acount, but never posted) and no one brought it up,and most tutorials don't tell you what kind of hard drive they used....

It should work...but you won't have the MS dash available if you ever want it...

Hey,
Go over to www.xbox-scene.com and read the tutorial for switching hard drives.
Then just do what it says. No need to make this more difficult than it is.

thanks.....i didn't really wantd the ms dash anymore, gonna store movies and things on it (found a nice western digital 200bg for 69 at fry's electronics) but the tutroial talked about switching with the dash and all.....but thanks anyways, you've been a big help, and hopefully once i get my xbox modded, i will beable to help others too....

and dont forget to use slayers, it will set it all up for you., it will format it.

the X3 bios, once installed, will do that too, and not install a bunch of crap you don't need. you can get a good dash from the usual places, even xbox media center.

does the bios come on the modchip and stuff...i mean, do i have to set up? Or do i have to download it somewhere??
