my friend has an XBOX non-modded... i told him to get a mod chip, but then he said his xbox is broken. i asked him what is wrong with it and he said it shuts off randomly so he didnt want to waste money on a mod chip... would putting in an X3 fix this -- maybe the power switch board or a bug in his xbox that running a mod chip over would fix -- or is there any way to fix this so my friend can buy a chip?

this problem seems to be kinda common. This summer, I put in 3 modchips for people. Two of thoes xboxes had the same problem with the powersupply. When the power plug that runs from the wall to the back of the xbox is jiggled, it makes a popping noise (caused by a spark) because of crappy solder, causing the xbox to loose power for a second. If the problem isn't fixed, it will get worse and possibly cause a fire. The one xbox I fixed was badly burnt on the power supply PCB. To fix it, reinforce the two pins that connect the externel part of the power plug to the powersupply PCB. Just add a few dabs of solder so it makes good contact.
