New to modding here and I am pondering a mod purchase. I have had my Xbox for about 1 yr now, and I am happy with it's performance and all but, I would like of course to have "more power!" but, I will pay for what will benefits me most. my question is this... which is a better buy, the X2.6 or, the X3? From all of the info I have read the X3 has more features but, there is not much on the sellers' websites for features of the X2.6. I am sure if I start I won't want to stop. So I have a delema as to which will be most beneficial to me. I have done searches among the threads to find the pro and cons but, mostly the talk is of people who already have the chip. So if there is someone who wouldn't mind talkin to the new-guy about this I would be appreciative.

if you're going to mod you mine as well get the newer chip. go with the x3. other than soldering the pin header in your just plug everything else into it. (external switch and lcd if that floats your boat)

If you are going to do more customizing you'll want the X3. There are already add-on's for the X3. The pro-switch and the X3LCD. If you just want a modded xbox and really aren't about all the extra features get the 2.6.

Yeah, get the X3. Why go for an older chip? Sure it's a little cheaper, but it doesn't have the fancies that the x3 does :p

Well the pro switch functions exactly like the standard dip switch that the X3 comes with, but it is fancier and has some LEDs and it is a bit more durable.

The XLCD is a screen that can be used for character display. You can program it to show you the bank you load from the bios your using and it has full compatibility with XBMC (so in case you can't see what you're watching you can read it  ) Or you can create personalized messages. It is not a necessary component but its pretty fun to screw around with.
