'X' flashes red before going blue

Is it normal when you power up the box with the chip enabled the 'X' on the external switch flashes briefly red before turning blue to show that the chip is enabled? Or is it a sign that the d0/ or some other solder point isn't connecting properly?

Yeah, everything seems to work as it should. However there was another weirdish occurance with the switch logo color. Couple days after installing the mod while playing a movie in XBMC the logo suddenly turned red. Couple minutes later it turned back to blue without anyone/thing touching the box. Haven't seen it happen since, it has been a bit over a week now.

my X3 has done this ever since i bought it, it works fine but when u turn it on the x3 logo light flashes red and then changes to blue

the x3 still works perfectly, I thought it was meant to do this? :)

Just to add another confirmation of the panel turning red then blue, when enabling the chip!
Mine does excatly the same and has done ever since installation and never failed in any way!

Though I might add the thing about changing color in XBMC, does sound a bit wierd ;-)

RROD after opening system :(

What's up people?
I recently opened my 360 (getting ready to flash it) and put it back together exactly how it was. I didn't unplug any wires or anything, AND was pretty gentle while opening the system. I work on computers every now and then so I have the basic idea on what not to do.

Well, this was a little over a week ago. I bought me a connectivity kit online, which im still waiting on, so I didn't have to try to flash it w/o "proper" hardware. I've even started the system up and browsed around xbox live after I did all of this.

Well, yesterday I tried to browse around LIVE again, and was successful until the system froze up. I restarted it and BAM, RROD. I was able to take the casing off the system and get the system going for a minute or 2, then I got a loud beep, and the RROD again.

Now, researching the problem, it's probably the X-Clamps overheating. But it's real funny that all of this happened right after I had taken the system apart. In the past day, ive taken it apart and put it back together a couple of times, and can't get past the problem. On the (what I think is a 'heatsink', but we'll call:) "Big Silver Block above one of the 'X's", there's that brown liquid stuff (even looks like drops of it on top of the bar that wraps in the "Big Silver Block above one of the 'X's" (are ya with me?).

I just ordered a set on ebay that helps me replace the X-Clamps...but Im thinking it may be another problem (again, since it coincidentally started happening after I had the system open). I can turn the system on (w/o the shell on it), and the "heatsink" gets pretty warm pretty quick, which would be a sign of overheating..but I don't know how warm it's supposed to normally be.

I've tightened all the casing screws as tight as possible when putting back together, and made sure everything is hooked up. Does this sound like it IS my 360 overheating (by some dumb chance), or did I f'k something up when I was assembling/disassembling the 360? any help is greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: I have the 0102 Error Code (check http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/Xbox-360-error-codes.htm)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I also have a 20gig, 2005 model 360 w/ a Samsung disc drive (might as well give all the details possible). Later!

Re: RROD after opening system :(

just redo the thermal paste under the heatsinks.....
remove the old and then put new paste on.
artic silver 5 is your best choice for thermal paste

If the xbox is 5 years old I think it's done I would used jasper unit or get a slim and wait for the slim firmware, if you want to try replacing the thermal compound as mightywiz said I would go with some artic cooling MX series past since it does not require any curing time

I've had this happen to me twice before. After taking an old system apart, it would get RRoD. The x-clamps hold the heatsinks in place, they would not overheat.

The best x-clamp fix to get is the Hybrid eXtreme Uniclamp X-Clamp Repair Kit. It provides proper cooling and support for the motherboard. A cheap x-clamp fix may be worse than leaving the x-clamps in. For my repairs I usually leave the x-clamps in and offer to put the hybrid kit in for $30 more.

You can try replacing the thermal compound, and if you don't have any decent equipment you might as well give it a try. In 99% of cases this is a cold solder join under the GPU. I usually just do a reflow and it works for a long time (if it fails again I just do a reball).

AS5 is good thermal compound and is very easy to spread, but is has a 200h curing / setting time. I use ArcticCooling MX4 which is more difficult to spread but is very good and has no curing time.
