Hi guys, forgive my inexperience please, but this is my first attempt at modding.
Installed X2.6CE with Xapt3r solderless into V1.0 mobo all OK. Tried flashing bios with switch banks set at chip enabled, prot off, bank 1 and seemed to go OK. Got flash screen, DVD opened, display showed bios being flashed, machine turned off, as expected.
Now nothing......just a flashing eject button. Box "squeeks" at power on and off, but just black screen.
Been reading threads for guidance, but getting confused by all the "lingo" and switch settings. Board at front of box that came with chip has three switches as described earlier and thats all. Got Auto Installer DeLuxe V3.10 and got BIOS off of that and made dummy as instructed.
Have tried pressing Eject and On at same time and nowt happens.

ANY guidance will be most appreciated and gratefully received.

Flashing Red alternating Green.
Didn't realise it made different colours, sorry !. Flashes quite fast as well if that makes any difference.

Almost certain it was a 512Kb bios, and no, flicking the switch to number 2 and rebooting gives the same response.
Um.....not helping much am I ?.
I have burnt myself a new 1Mb bios, x3.3294, but original falsh was x2.5035.
Do the words "total numbnuts" come to mind ?......

if you flash it with a x3 bios you will be
the x3 3294 bios is only for the x3 chips
are you 100% the bios was the right one as there are 1mb and 512k x2 bios in Aid3 sounds to me that you flashed a 1mb bios should of used a 512k
allways get your bios from xbins all though the bios on the AID3 are good it a good habbet

I think DJ's on the money. If you used an X3 BIOS, not only will it wipe over your chip completely, but it will FRAG as you have an X2 chip.

You'll need the X2.6 Programmer if you want to sort this yourself. Download X2 5035 and flash to the chip.

Thanks guys, as always a little know how goes a long way to messing it up !.
If I get the X2.6 Programmer, is there a tutorial on it's use ?. Believe that bios is on the AID.
Your comment of "will wipe it over completely" worries me, is it terminal ?.
Have a decent understanding of PCs, but this seems a bit alien. Probably an age thing.
Thanks again for your time, it's much appreciated.

You'll need:

A PC with a parallel port.
25-pin to 25-pin parallel port extension lead.
X2 BIOS Manager.
What you'll be doing here is flashing the entire chip with 1MB of data.
Your chip is split into 2 x 512k banks. The 1st Bank will have X2 5035 and the 2nd bank will have FlashBIOS (which will be used to fill slots 3 & 4, as it's only 256kb and you must fill the entire bank).

This link shows the older programmer :

http://www.team-xecuter.com/x2prog/

Although the newer programmer is different, the fundamentals are the same. You will need the external switch connected to the X2 chip for flashing (set to bank 1 / flash enable / chip on - all green LEDs).

Some PCs give better results than others. Keep this thread going for any questions you have on it.

Again, many thanks guys. Have found a site selling the progamer so order is already placed. As for the X2 bios manager software, could I have a pointer on it's likely location ?. Starting to get told off for hogging the PC !.

Greetings !, the programmer has arrived. Am I right in thinking that all I need to do is flash the X2 5035 to both banks on the chip and that means I don't then need to update the bios via disc as it's already done ?
Will follow the guide you pointed me to ealier in the thread for flashing the chip.

As I stated earlier, what you'll be doing here is flashing the entire chip with 1MB of data. Your chip is split into 2 x 512k banks. The 1st Bank will have X2 5035 and the 2nd bank will have FlashBIOS (which will be used to fill slots 3 & 4, as it's only 256kb and you must fill the entire bank).

If you do this, you'll avoid having to re-flash externally should you ever need to.

Thanks Martin. I have Flashbios 303 on that Auto Installer disc, should I use that for bank 2 ?.
Evereyone told me this was a five minute job !, I've built PCs, installed Windows and Office and then networked them quicker than I've managed this !. Found it quite humbling in a sense.
