I got a brand new v1.6b motherboard, and matching hard drive, and matching power supply. Installed it in my v1.0 case, everything matches up except the v1.0 box had an extra mounting screw, which i didn't think to be an issue. anyways, I soldered the pinheader and the lpc rebuild fine, booted up the chip, flashed it from cromwell 3.03....viola! now it booted up great, left the box on for an hour, called the guy to tell him his xbox was done....great. I put the case back on, plugged it back in, ready to install new dash.....and now nothing happens. I push power and eject, nothing. not even the slightest sign of power. I have a meter and while plugged in, the power supply reads several different voltage levels and there is voltage going to the motherboard... the only thing that doesn't make sense is that it was working fine, and now it's not. no smoke or discoloration on the supply or board either. any ideas? i'm about ready to trash it.

try powering the whole lot up out of it's case. maybe where the extra mounting point is on the case it's touching and shorting something out on the motherboard. I had this with a PC i built once - it's worked out of it's case but not in it due to part of the metal casing making contact with the motherboard.

if you do decide to try it out of it's case do it on an antistatic bag or surface to try and prevent any further damage.

i went ahead and put some electrical tape over the open ground on the extra mounting spot, and a peice of electrical tape on the motherboard where the mounting location would sit....put everything back in, no response... it's just odd

When you were putting the case back together, did you pull anything loose anywhere? What about the surge protector, is that working properly? Sounds like something to do with moving the box more than a problem with the swap.
