I have spent several hours searching through the threads, and to no avail. My problem is this:

originally I messed up and flashed my v1.6 xbox with the wrong bios. So I did a search and found that my best bet was a programmer.....so I ordered one and it arrived yesterday. Followed the tutorials on the programmer and the 2.6 chip, obtaining the correct bios(s) (my box is a 1.6 with samsung ram so I got the v301 bios and the MBplus), and then proceeded to follow the tutorial on how to flash the chip using the programmer. However, no matter what order I put the bios's in using X2 Bios Manager, the "Flash" button never becomes enabled. Thus, I can not flash my chip. I have spent all night and all morning gettig to this point and for the life of me cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. Like I said, I followed the tuts and everything looks like it does in the tuts, but my flash button will not enable??

Any ideas for a noob? Thanks a ton!!

oh ya....I also tried both banks on the external switch and flash protect is disabled as shown in the tutorial.

i have attached a few pics of x2bm attempts. The steps I went through were:

1. open x2bm (tried both versions)
2. click on bank 1 as instructed in the tutorials
3. clicked on open
4. selected flashbios_v301.bin (it only populated bank1 in x2bm)
5. clicked on bank 3 as instructed
6. clicked on open
7. selected M8plus.bin (it populated both bank3 and bank4 automatically)

8. then I tried to click on bank 2 and open flashbios_v301 and thats when I get the error. I know the tutorials dont say to do this but when I followed the tutorials it showed that bank 2 automatically populated with the same bios as bank1. Thats where I am stuck.

Hope that helps

Right click on the first slot, and copy it. Then paste it into the second slot.

Don't use M8, get X2 5035, it is better, more stable and has more features than M8. 5035 does not need to be on bank 2 either. It is also a 512k file, so there is no need to resize.

I tried to right click & copy on the first slot. The right click and past on the second slot. Attached is the error message I get when I attempted it. I also tried using the copy/past buttons just in case.

I got 5035 and was able to select it for bank 3/4 with no problem. I still can not get v301 to work in both bank 1 and 2 not matter what order I try it. I keeps telling me that "You can only load a 512k image in Bank 1 or 3" ? I checked the size of my v301 and it is 256k. I even downloaded a new one just in case.

Thanks again

Do this:

Open X2 BIOS Manager. Click on "Load BIOS Image". Select the X2 5035 v16. It should populate banks 1 and 2.

Select bank 3 and select load from the "selected bank options". Select FlashBIOS 3.0.1. It will now occupy bank 3. Right click and choose copy. Right click Bank 4 and choose Paste. You should now be able to flash the entire chip.

If you want to just flash bank 1 (slots 1 and 2), then select slots 1 and 2 and the Flash option should be enabled under "Selected bank options".

Martin.....THANKS!!!!

I was able to flash it now. The flash went great with the 5035 at 512k in bank1/2 and v301 in bank 3 & 4 at 256 each. However, when I boot the box off of bank 1 it comes up and says "executr2 live config loading" then then the green bubbly thing shows (which is fine) then I get a messed up screen that says "oops, error 13" and the rest is not legible? Should I try flashing it again or did I use the wrong bios maybe?? The light also frags green and red while the above error screen is present...and it just hangs there?

My box is definately a v1.6 with samsung ram so 301 should be correct??

Thanks again

What HDD is in the Xbox at the moment?

If it's brand new, you need to boot from a boot disk. Try it with the stock HDD for now..

If this *is* the stock HDD, then try a reflash. You don't need to use the programmer again, just boot to Bank 2 (flashBIOS) and try it again (X2 5035 v16). FlashBIOS will automatically flash over bank 1 if you just use the X2 BIOS.
