sorry if this sounds stupid, but i've read the readme's and many posts, but haven't found an answer.

I'm about to install the 5032 bios for my 2.6, where does the x2config.ini file go? into C:\BIOS\ with the .bin file?

It should be in the root of F: or E:, I beleive it looks in F: first.

It wont hurt to put a copy on both E: and F: to be sure though ;)

Looking in the places where you say it will be, all i have found was one small mention:

"- added: x2config.ini now first searched on F: and, if not found, on E: - if again not found then defaults are used" halfway through the changelog, which to be honest i skimmed over on first read and missed it. I got the bios pack from xbins.

I take it your request for advice was supposed to be heavily sarcastic, but here it is if wanted: put a little note in the release information section of the readme, saying 'put the config file here or here'...

put...it....here...like....this.... E:\x2config.ini

not trying to be negative Bi0GY but.....

how did you not see where it went? also theres hundreds of BS posts like this saying they cant find stuff. why not? if you just read the text before you go screwing yourself over it would be alot easier.

Hi Bi9GY,
Thanks for asking, as I couldn't find this info out either. No where in the bios docs did I find the statement, "Put ini file on root of F or E drive.
Thanks!

Well you cant read then, hehe

[5030 BETA]
- added: now can add full paths to dashboards in x2config.ini (e.g. c:dashes\evox\evoxdash.xbe), 255 chars max here
- added: x2config.ini now first searched on F: and, if not found, on E: - if again not found then defaults are used
- added: dvd boot xbe filename can be changed now, 16 chars max for this setting - change boot xbe to e.g. "boot.xbe"
Taken direct from the README1ST.TXT

I can read and I don't see where it says to install x2config.ini on F or E drive. Please read the above and tell me where it says that? And if that's what is meant by the above statement, then why not JUST SAY IT.

Holy sh*t.

Right there is a dead giveaway.
I know from up on high it sure does look like a 'dead givaway', but down here at NoobVille USA, it is just not that obvious. But I don't think we need to kick this darn dead horse anymore, he ain't coming back to life. I took a break from my xbox for a year, and didn't even know that a ini file was required. I read the docs so I wasn't so 'noobish'. I couldn't even find what the latest bios was for my 2.3b pro was, I just took it for granted that 'x2 5032' meant that it would work on my 2.3b pro and I guessed right. Just remember alot of people don't even remember what a dos prompt is (or was). I do read the tuts and they do help out. thanks for the help/support, us noobs need it.

This is really not a matter to get upset about. The information is somewhat hidden, but it's there. I didn't find the location until I found this tread, but maby if I had read the changelog more carfully... BUT, again, this is not a mather to get all angry about. Lets have some fun with the new bios instead!

I am glad he asked too... that info doesnt really stand out in any of the included info documents and it's really easy to miss (as evidenced by the "hundreds of BS posts like this")

Hi, just thought i would add some feedback.

I too completely missed this vital piece of info and arrived at this post to find the answer.

Anyway the readme1st.txt file is not particularly user friendly to the semi-noob. I have done a few xboxes now and have always used 4983, but last night i done a v1.6 for the 1st time and come across the same queries.

What i am trying to say is that the readme1st document although thorough and concise is a document that details the functionality of the bios and is not a user guide on how to install it (which i was personally hoping for). Perhaps Xecuter would care to write a guide to add to the BIOS pack to help noobs who need step by step instructions as well as the details of the bios itself. Then you would have real reason for flaming!!

I know you think its not rocket science.....but in my eyes and others you are Rocket Scientists therfore it wouldn't to you, To many of your new customers it appears bordering on rocket science to understand much of the technicalities detailed in the readme1st.txt file.

Cheers

I hate to be a total noob. But how do you transfer the file over? I got the bios over, but not the file.
FTP,
You can use any of the PC based config apps to transfer it for you.

There's no need to call names and play "Who's got the biggest lobes" here, just because some of you knew something that the rest of us didn't readily see. I'm a reasonably intelligent person who knows how to RTFM, but I had to search the forums too, before I found the answer.

I probably would have put it in c: by default and mucked it all up if I hadn't thought to check here first.

Please don't take this personally, but it's important to note that the engrishy note saying:
- added: x2config.ini now first searched on F: and, if not found, on E: - if again not found then defaults are used
is not quite the same as adding a step that explicitly states:

- The x2config.ini file must be placed in the F: root directory.
- If the file is not found in F:, X2 will look for it in the E: root directory instead.
Sometimes docs aren't exactly clear, and noobs need a little more direct instruction, as evidenced by the fact that so many people needed to read here for clarification. What's obvious to you might not be obvious to others, and there's no need to get mean about it.

It should also be noted that many Xbox programs and files (and many other computer programs) come with installation instructions that aren't buried in the changelog. That's one of the last places I'd think to look for installation instructions. And there's no way somebody completely new Xbox modding would decide to read the entire readme1st file.. After the section enclosed with capital "read this first" lines, the file seems to digress into information about Xecuter products and bios features, not important instructions.
