just did a 1.6 installation for x3 with the PCB rebuild and all. when i try to power up with the chip, i get no picture, and the power light will change from green to orange and back (not really flashing, its kinda slow). the box will boot to original MS dash.

you are getting some sort of a bad connection....if its not a FRAG ....then its sorta a FRAG. so i would resolder the pin header....i guess thats where i had most of my problems...make sure you put enough solder and let it slide into the holes to fill it. You will see it sucked in...
Not sure if you used xecuters rebuild or the wire install .... i found soldering to the points wasn't too bad....once you have it though....LEAVE it....cause if you can juggle the xbox after its been put back together and the mod still works...then i'd say you have good installation....untill then.....u need to double check all the soldering stuff again.....starting at the pin header.

if the pin header isnt the problem, are there any other common errors?
edit: nevermind, just found out that is a 1.6b box. should be easy enough to clear up.

can you swap motherboard from a 93450c into an older drive?

I realize that this is a site for modding xbox's but I'm not looking to do that. As you all know these drives fail all the time with decent use. My son and I play a lot so we go through drives every 3-4 months. My problem is that one of our 360's just quit working again and it is now out of warranty. I have replaced drives in our older 360's before so I know that the motherboard needs to be swapped first but then you are good to go.
Now onto my problem. The one that just quit has a 93450c f/w drive in it and I can't find a replacement for it anywhere. My question is if I buy a new 74850c drive can I put the motherboard from my 93450c into it and be okay? We both play live all the time so I don't want to get banned.

Yes it will work but you'll need to do some soldering on the pcb to switch boards.
Also if you're replacing a lite on 93 you're going to need to make trace cuts to get your original key to transfer.
If its a lite on v93 hows it out of warranty, they started manufacturing them only this previous June?

The unit is out of warranty but I assume the last time we sent it in under warranty for this problem they replaced the drive with the newer model. So basically I just have to do the same thing that I did when I replaced the older drives....just swap out the MB??

yep, the hardware for lite-ons are all the same
you can put any FW revision PCB board into any revision lite-on drive
