Hello,
I tried installing the X3 mod chip on my new 1.6 xbox - not good. When the Xbox is plugged in, the X3 logo is red and the little HD light in the top right corner is blue. When I press the power button the xbox tries to boot up but then dies right away. Nothing comes up on the tv screen. I have tried resoldering but I'm not too sure where the problem is. I have no tools for tracing the problem or anything. Please help!

Are you getting anything on the screen at all?

EDIT: I didn't completely read your post.

What bios did you flash to your chip?

I haven't flashed anything... nothing on screen at all. When the XBox is first plugged in... the logo on the X3 display is red and the hg light is blue and the lan light is orange. I then pressed the power button and the yellow lan light disappears and the xbox attempts to power on but it makes a funny noise (like 1-2 seconds long of trying to power up the hd i guess) and then shuts down.

Wow. Nice. Make sure your hard drive is plugged in correctly, first. Always start with the simplest solution and work your way up. Make sure the IDE is plugged in correctly to the back of the HDD and the DVD-ROM (the red stripe goes towards the power plug--I'm assuming you already knew that, though), then make sure it's plugged in correctly to the Mobo. I had nearly that identical problem...I was just an idiot and plugged the cable in the wrong way. If that doesn't work, go through and make sure everything is plugged in correctly and tightly. Beyond that...I'd say you may end up having to resolder, as painful as that is.

Thanks for the reply! I just checked and made sure the HDD and stuff were connected properly... i think they are... because the cables are made so that they only plug in one way (there is one pin missing in the middle, and so you know which way it plugs in (left or right). Although... there are two different options for connecting the DVD player to the HDD.. does it matter which connects to the motherboard and which connects to the HDD? So the same problem happens. Oh, I forgot to add, the eject button on the xbox is half orange / half red. Is there a quick way (say if i disconnect something) so that the xbox should boot up into its normal way... rather than the X3 way. That way, I know whether or not my motherboard maybe got fried?! Thanks!!

i am having the same problem. i've done over 30 xbox installs, including a few 1.6's. i checked, rechecked, even ran a few different wires and still when i plug it in, it automatically turns on the and external switch logo is blue and it boots right to the ms dash.

any help would be awesome.
