X3 1.6b (most likely) and amber eject button

Hi all,

Just a little background: I was told by my reseller that my X3 would have flash bios 3.03.

Installed it today and the soldering looks good and here's the but: I can boot normally without the mod (hold power button 1 sec), but when I try to boot to the X3, the screen stays blank and after a bit, the eject button goes from green to amber/orange (the same thing happens when I try booting with power+eject button). My assumption is then, that the bios isn't 3.03

I tried searching the forums (maybe not hard enough, apologies if I missed it). So is my X3 bios at fault?

we all seem to have the same issue... one chap reflashed his into another bank of memory and it worked fine ... me.. i am like you... new xbox, new X3 and its doing nothing but taking up space.

yea you dont have the 3.0.3 bios, your gonna need to flash that chip somehow, either the buyer you got it from or a friend or something, that orange light shows the system has crashed on you

re-do your soldering....Bios should not cause FRAG (flash red and green). Also contact your re-seller and ask if BIOS 3.03 was flashed to a different bank (I got one from my re-seller and he had kindly flashed it to bank 8...Bios 3.01 was still in the backup bios. This was written on the packaging in my case... If this is the case then you will need to select that bank before booting.. Worth a try

I don't think it's the soldering as my box isn't fragging. Boots normally and I can play my games with the original dash. It just boots to a blank screen and the eject button stays a steady amber/orange... no flashing green and red. Interesting thought about trying the other banks.. I did try a few, but since there are a bunch of combinations, I guess it doesn't hurt to try 'em all. My reseller is rather lacking (to say it politely) when it comes to communication but I have tried getting in touch with them. Thanks.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to allude that I found something no one knew about. I suspected my issue was the same and I was looking for assurance that it's the same since I can't find any posts (forgive if there are, but I really did try looking) that had the blank screen sympton plus an amber light on the eject button. My premise again was that I was told by the reseller that I would be getting an X3 with flash bios 3.03.

I now have an un-useable X3 with my xbox because of the bios issue and while TeamXecuter makes what I think is a great product, it seems to me you are unwilling to support the small subset of people that have a combination of an 1.6b Xbox and the X3 without the 3.03 bios other than by telling these people to get the reseller to flash it for you or get someone else to do it for you. It's great TeamXecuter is now sending out X3's with both bios', but as it relates to me, my only recourse is trying to get my authorised reselller (who has a record of never communicating with their customer) to re-flash it for me or to find someone else to flash it for me.

I made reasonable effort to ensure the X3 I was getting would have bios 3.03 and was assured by the reseller that it would, but unforunately, that has turned out not to be the case.

I recently bought a X3 from modchipsource.com and they told me it had been updated to FlashBios 3.03 Installed it on my 1.6b, and lo and behold, a blank screen with an amber light. I emailed the seller and they just kept telling me that it was updated with 3.03
Finally (after reading another post here) I switched the bank to
off on on off (to boot on bank 23) -- strangely, it worked! and booted to Cromwell. Hope this helps anybody :?

uh.. he said modchipsource.com.

i tried all the dip switch settings from this post: http://teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=16102, and it didn't work for me. oddly enough, off on on off, isn't on the list. giving it some thought, all the combinations aren't listed on that post.

what were your dip switch settings when you got the x3? mine were all off.

yes lo and behold indeed - apart from the fact weve been telling everyone that we flashed both versions to all new stock

yeah.. there you go -- there was a another post here talking about trying to boot from bank 34, which is off on on off (which isn't really documented anywhere else) I received the X3 with all the switches off and without any instructions on what to do to get to 3.03 They just told me to try EVERY bank (including all the 256k banks) until something works -- which, at any rate, going to bank 34 worked for me :lol:

Nobody knows for sure if you are totally safe with doing this roll the dice brother It's one of the chances you take when you try and skirt the system IE Microsoft
