So, what happens when you play the original? ;) - could it be a bad burn ... or a even a finger print on the backup media? Sometimes its the simple things that are missed.

Playing backup si more than just the BIOS ... a backup taken on one DVD burner may work in one DVD drive, but not another, similarly media is one machine might not work in another (or produce flaky results).

I suspect the problem you are having is NOT BIOS related, but more the DVD/Burner/Media compatability issues. It sounds flaky, but even the size of the game on the DVD can have an effect here - a DVD drive might be able to read 2/3 of the disc OK, but has issues with the outer 1/3 - not all DVD drives are created equal.

Do you know what version xboxes you and your son have? Which DVD drive is in each?

ok the samsung drive is taken from my old box which so its not the drive but for some reason the system overall doesn't like the backup copy of that game its not the media as all my other games are on one of two types and so far ive had no probs with them i may be a Hdd prb i dont know i didn't get round to putting the original Hdd back in to test as i got hold of an original copy of the game and stuck it on my Hdd but it was a really damaged copy took 3 goes to get it on and i couldn't rip a copy of that one to see if that one would work so still some things i can try to find the prb but at least i can continue my game and sort the prb in my own time but thanx for ur input all the same

cheers
