X3 - 1959 Password Prompt

OK, I've read the FAQs - As suggested, I've built several CD-Rs, CR-RWs, DVD-Rs, and a DVD-RW to house the program to 'erase' the password or load the evox package to 'back-door' into a solution. None work or even do anything meaningful. I just can't get past the X3 password prompt. No password was ever set and prior to the BIOS upgrade, the 3.0.1 didn't have this limitation. If I try to access by FTP, it asks for username & password - I DON'T HAVE any username and password! - I never set one and can't find any reference to any default ones. I tried all the recommended approaches for trying different ways to get to the underlying system - none will boot. at best, it just hangs. I've upgraded to the 1959 bios (the only thing that's worked) and since then I've come to a complete halt. Does anyone have a workable solution that doesn't rely on magic to overcome this condition? I may be hindered because I have a v1.0 xbox, although I did sucessfully install the X3 after clearing the solder from the pass-throughs. I've invested in the X3 mod and need a solution or feedback to let me know if this mod was ever intended to work correctly with a v1.0 unit.

ftp username and password is x3 / x3

you are creating the discs wrong - the default.xbe works perfect for erasing the X3 eeprom.

have you tried using qwix plus a 100 mb dummy file to create your XISO ?

have you even tried flashing an x2 / evox bios to another bank and then booting the disc from that bios ?

all this is pretty simple really

I did my best to understand and follow the process for making XISOs. I tried different media types and did add the big dummy file - all without success. The process appears straight-forward, so I'm at a loss. I used Qwix101 and Nero 5.5 (I don't have v6) as recommended - so why they don't work I don't know.

I've read through every turtorial located here and there seem to be gaps. I'm trying to 'guess' those parts and I'm not doing very well. I'll keep at it - and try not to ask too many bad questions.

Thank you for the x3/x3 FTP username and password. The FTP server doesn't appear to understand basic UNIX commands, but it seems to get along just fine with FlashFTP (another recommendation - nice program).

I'll see how far I get using this method to clear the password. Once that's done, I'll try to figure the whole CD/DVD issue.

Success!
A couple of observations: Once I FTP'd the default.xbe to the Xbox, it did not automatically launch that program (as some sources indicated). It appears that xboxdash.xbe is the default dashboard (at least in my v1.0 box).
So, I got the boxplorer.iso and burned it to a CD-RW (just 1.8mb, did not unpack the XISO). The Xbox would not load & launch the program UNLESS ALL CONTROLLERS WERE UNPLUGGED. I repeated this several times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. How odd! It may be unique to my box, but there it is - food for thought.
Anyway, once all that was figured out it was a slam-dunk to erase the password, load up XBMC, rename the default dashboard and reconfigure XBMC. Works Better Than Advertised!
Thanks all - it took a right bit of jumping around these forums for me to get up to speed - Now I'm looking for another Xbox for upstairs...

Unless it's LT, yes they can.

If it's LT, then no...not yet.

Sorry, I mean LT as in the firmware for the drive

ixtreme LT is only avaliable for the lite-on drives at the moment, but is coming soon for benq's...I hope.

Both burned and retail, as long as your burned game has correct DMI, SSV2, and splitvid when burnt. If you want to know what that all is, I suggest you take some time and research it. ;)
