X3 3029 Flash Problems

This problem is circulating around the forums already...

Problem with my X3 is the "'unknown flash' halting!" error when I try to flash ANY bios (cromwell or previous X3 bios builds) to either 1mb bank. I can't even flash Flashbios v3.03. I have tried unplugging the switch, and i am positive that the flash protect is disabled...(I even tried it both ways). I am not sure if I missed any posts or if I am overlooking anything. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

what's up with you guys asking for help and not giving any pertinent info? to start out, tell us what version of xbox your got. What bios have you installed. What switches configuration you have set.

eh.. my bad... kinda pissed.. looking at it for past 5 hours... i have a 1st version xbox and the plain X3 chip (the one with the purple back). I had the x3 2913 bios? (whichever was the first one to come out for the X3). I have tried all different configurations... i.e (on on off off ~ off on off off) I used the Pro switch, original, and without any switch.

cool. Thanks for putting all that info into your sig. This instruction is with your pro switch. Make sure the first button (where it says protect) is red. Also make sure the switch on the X3 chip is on flash protect disabled position (see pic). Next, choose banks 1234 to flash by pressing in buttons 1 & 2. They should light up blue. Boot up to cromwell to flash.

What method of flash are you using? If cd/dvd, might I suggest trying http flash? Do search on it and you will see instructions to do so. It's easy

The button on the ProSwitch is red and the main switch on the X3 is to the left. I have even tried flashing with the flash protect on and without the switch.

I currently have no bios... just the flashbios v3.01 (the backup).

I attempted an HTTP flash for the 3029 and tried flashing an older bios off the harddrive (C:\bios). I have also tried flashing via cd, but it kept halting. My xbox has a thompson so I am limited in cd ability... -_-'

no, http flash is best imho. Have you tried flashing by disconnecting cable from X3 to the control panel? If still no go. I seem to remember someone recommending checking solder on pins 13, 14, and 15.

wtf does this have to do with FlashBIOS not detecting the x3 flash rom ?

do any of you read any manuals at all ?

no wonder all the confusion - ppl give advice and most of the time its completely wrong

unplug the switch FROM THE X3 not the cable from the switch itself

set to flash protect OFF

if that doesnt work then the switch on the x3 is faulty - thats it nothing else

Well it helped me :)

I took my box apart and found i had mistakenly slid the write protect dip switch over .. The front panel acts as if the chip is flashable - changes colours etc but will always report the wrong bios type..
I suppose its because im a noob on xboxes :D
