I need some help here identifying what my X3 should be doing and what it isn't. Basically my mate chips PS2s, and has done 20 or so no probs. So i decided he could do my x3 fitting, printed him the instructions from the xecuter site, and gave him the box and chip. I had it back next day but didn't think to try it until last night as it is supposed to be a xmas present.
Also I swapped the stock hdd for an NTFS-formatted Maxtor 200gig. The xbox itself is a 1.6b crystal.
Now the problems. With the new hdd/x3 installed I get a quick flash on/off of a blue LED from the x3 itself when I power on. The external LED display doesn't light up at all and get either error 5 (with game) or error 16 (w/o game).
So I decided to use the stock hdd to see if that worked. It just acted as if there was no x3 installed, and booted up normally. Again quick flash from the x3 chip itself and no external LED lights.
Sound like a faulty x3 install or have I just missed something altogether? He said that he checked the circuit (multimeter?) throughout the install and everything seemed ok, so I was happy enough, until now.
Also he has soldered the alternate 5v wire, and it is firmly in the chip and the solder point seems 100%.
Also the picture from the xecuter guide, (caption above - 'This is how everything..'), shows 3 blue wires referring to LADs 0,1+2. Now 1+2 are as per diagram but, for LAD0, he has soldered onto the pinhead underneath the board as shown, but instead of soldering to the point (beside R7P4) he has used a long strand of wire and looped it around to the top of the mobo. He has then soldered that end to the Xyclops chip, about 1.5cm squared, which is an inch or so to the right of the ribbon cable socket for the cd drive. Why, I do not know, but it seems to be causing probs.
As for the LEDs on the x3 chip only the blue LED flashes on then off when the power button is pressed (either switching on or off), or if the power button is held in then so the LED remains lit. But I have not noticed any other LED light on the chip nor any lights on the external display.
I really need to find out what the problem is soon because he can only fix any probs tomorrow, else I have to wait til the new year for a fix and I can't wait that long. Basically I need to be able to tell the guy exactly what to do in laymans terms so he can get it right this time.
Any guidance very much appreciated. Cheers.
