The banks are 256KB sections of the chip on the X3. To flash a 1024KB X3 1959 BIOS you would set all the switches on the control panel to the left.

The purpose of the banks is to flash it with bios?

Here is one of my old posts..
If you look at the link that gives you your switch settings
http://www.teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=16102

You will see that the first lot of settings relate to 256K banks- -Banks 1 to 8

The chip has 2Mb Memory and 8 x 256k = 2Mb

So you can select any of the 8 different 256k banks (or memory blocks) by setting the 4 switches as per the list

e.g - if you wanted to flash bank 3 with a 256k BIOS you would set the 4 dip switches to On Off On On (Switches numbered 1 to 4)

if you wanted to flash bank 6 with a 256k BIOS you would set the switches to Off On Off ON (switches numbered 1 to 4)

As most of the BIOS are around 1MB (X3), selecting a bank of 256k would not be enough - Cant get a gallon into a pint pot. So the list carries on to give the setting for 512K, 1Mb and 2Mb banks (or memory blocks)

SO- if you wanted a 1 MB bank to flash the latest X3 Bios you would have 2 choices (as the chip is capable of 2 Mb of storage)

Chioce 1 would be using banks 1 to 4 (4 x 256k = 1MB) which you would select by setting the switches to On On Off OFf

or Chioce 2 - Banks 5 to 8 by setting the switches to Off On Off Off.

You will notice from the table that no switch settings on that list are the same - They are all different to enable you to select different options.

Hope this helps

Its all in the forums m8.
Although Halomaster7777 was partially correct when he said you can flash a 1 MB BIOS with all switches to the left, this isnt the "proper" way to do it... This just selects a 2MB memory bank, as if the switch panel was not fitted.

don't update the flashbios unless you have a 1.6b mobo.

if you do then go into the x3cl bios screen and go to bios tools and select flash backup bios and flash to the 3.0.3

something that is not really clear to me. If I use livebios w/X3, how can I flash the backup bios? (banks 5-8, 1mb)?
Do I boot into the livebios, and then flip the dip switched so that it is Off On Off Off? Or do I leave the dip switches alone and just attempt to flash?

Also, from within livebios, it says I can flash the backup, but only has a 512k option? (I'm not in front of my xbox right now). So, when I browse to my F: to look for the bios, it can't find it.

Also, I tried booting to flashbios 3.0 (which is currently on banks 5-8), and doing it, but now it seems like I only get "unknown flash " or something. Flash protection is disabled, so not sure what is up there....thanks.

Tried reading some posts on all of this, but I get more confused every time I read it.

Cripes!!!!!

Just think of each 256k bank (all 8 of em) as 8 beer glasses....

You get a pitcher of beer (This is your BIOS)..... In this case your BIOS is the Team X 1959 which is a 1mb BIOS - -SO your pitcher holds 4 glasses of beer (4 x 256k Glasses).... So you select the glasses you want to fill (i.e banks 1, 2, 3 and 4) and you fill em..... If you want to use this BIOS (DrinK this beer) then you must have them selected - No use in picking up an empty glass!!.

You now have 4 full glasses and 4 empty ones... or 1 MB of memory left on your chip (4 X 256K)

If you want to put another BIOS onto the chip you must put it into the other EMPTY glasses,,,the first ones are full!!!!!!!! So you select the other glasses and put your second lot of beer (OR BIOS) in them...VIA THE DIP SWITCHES.

If you try and fill the first 4 glasses again you are going to get wet bollocks

Dont forget that you have a flash protect on the chip as well..........

would need to know the chipset of the southbridge!
try cpu-z (google it)
then look at mainboard tab for southbridge!

Re: ASUS M3A JungleFlasher compatible?

Ok i attempted it, now my drive will not eject and the green light on the power on button is flashing.

I removed the drive and left it on my desk whilst I reinstalled XP.

Also its not recognised by the SATA.
