X3 boots when enabled and in backup. Won't boot with X3 disabled

Just installed an X3 into a fresh out of the box Xbox. It will boot normally with the X3 enabled or in the backup mode, but the Xbox will flash green/red if the x3 is disabled. Also, the xbox will turn itself off and then on before it boots anything. Is this normal? What can I diagnose now?

This won't help but I'm having the same problem. When pressing the the power button quickly the x3 bios screen is displayed. If the power button is held for a long off the microsoft xbox blob apears before the xbox requires service is displayed.
Also the it is unable to flash the new x3 bios (1959 or whatever) even when the switch is disconected. Its says the is is the incorect size.
any help?

OK Well sorry for wasting 15 seconds of everyones time but I fixed my problem: My drive was unlocked. I was getting an error 05. I'm still having the same bios problems....I'll take business over there

have your flashed your chip yet??? are you using the stock hdd???

im having a similar problem but my hdd is locked it wont boot up in ms dash board and all my games crash.. it usd to boot up untill i changed my hdd then it started goin down hill

What version is your xbox, if its a 1.6 or 1.6b did you remove pin 6 from the LPC header.

you sure you put all the files that's needed on the new hdd
