I'm just wondering what the features are of this Control Panel. I understand it's basically a pro switch, and the LCD. Im just wondering what this button is -

Perhaps IR capabilities?

Seamaster: you are correct, that is the window for the IR reciever.

Xecuter: a question for you, will the USB ports just split the 3&4 signal (can only have one device in at a time?) or will there be a relay (doubt it)?
Also cannot wait until you guys make an IR mod specificially for the X3 (is that what the 2 extra plugs on the X3 P/E board for :D?)

Gotta flash the new X3 bios (when it comes out :D) to the 2MB bank so I can have all 4 front banks lights lit.

Great, but does this mean that the Control Panel has an IR receiver in it? And if it does, will this replace the M$ dongle?

Also, is the pro switch in the same boat? With a similarly looking IR window.

Proswitch also has this window. however unfortunately TX has not developed their IR mod yet. You can however get an XIR (search on XS) or IR-mod (divineo).

Also neither of these replace the MS dongle.

Let's all hope that TX has some time to work on their IR mod after they take a well deserved break from all of this work recently. Maybe if we all cross our fingers they may be able to intergrate MS dongle functionality, but I would not hold my breath.

I looked into the Xir on X-S. Not really what I'm looking for, I want the features of the M$ dongle, without the actual ugly dongle. This way I can always have 4 controllers plugged in, as well as have the remote on standby at all times.

Even if they did integrated it, which I also hope they will, I don't think you would be able to have 4 controllers working as well as the remote, perhaps there would be a switch between a port and the dongle.

I think they can piggy-back it, otherwise how can you use the USB ports with all 4 controllers?

I did in fact install the XIR mod on my halo box, and basically I used some double-sided tape to mount it underneath the front lip of the box below the power switch. It's almost impossible to see because it's so small unless you're actually eye-level with it, and it works great. I know it might not be the solution you're looking for, but I wouldn't trade the convenience for anything.

Seamaster: You cannot piggyback a MS dongle onto a port with a controller because each controller is essentially a USB hub, and the Xbox will get very confused if it sees 1 device (dongle) and a hub (controller) on the same port.

You can hardwire a dongle internally using a relay (would automaticially turn off dongle when controller plugged in) or using a switch.
Look at the first two tuts here:
http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php?p=191|229|#229

To use a switch you can get a DPDT switch and just turn off the dongles USB data lines (green & white)

Another trick that is feasable is to hardwire the dongle into the controller in one of the memory card slots. However if you do this your remote will only work when that plug is plugged in AND the remote has line of sight to the reciever.
