don't count on it, first out the door will be the Black 1, any other colors deff won't be till after christmas i don't think, maybe crystal as they got the Crystal pro switches out pretty fast, but either way I'm curious about how long the Crystal 1s will be available, hoping a lil while as I'm wanting 2 wait till I see the results on this HD Serial Changing theory bit, and for the IR MOD 2 be packed with the X3CPs, this will help me decide if I want to move my X3 into my Crystal and then later get the same stuff for my Black machine, or maybe i'll sell my black 1 2 my buddy, but I gotta be able 2 get my Crystal on XBL while still modded and using a Upgraded HDD as theres no Pretty way 2 have a second HDD in a Crystal

Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

Hi , im new to this forum.(i've had modding experience and know about hardware in the comp and in general)
im planning to buy an xbox elite 120gig.
i want to know which dvd drives would they most commonly come with.
on 360drives.com most recent drive submissions were all lite on and 70% of the 9x series.

i would also like to know for modding lite on drives , or any in that matter, whether a via 6241 PCI card is required , or could i just use my available onboard sata ports(i have a gigabyte motherboard and the sata ports support raid if it helps Model:ga ma78gm-s2h)

also if i require any kits like the ck3 or xecuter (im not too aware of these) please let me know.

Re: Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

Hello and welcome to the forums!

All recent Xbox 360's will have the 93450C, so what you found is correct. I've been doing modding for a while now and the only kinds of drives I'm getting are LiteOns.

You should try your computer's onboard SATA - I have a Gigabyte mobo in one of my computer's like yours, I'm not sure if I tried it, but they are good and it will most likely work. Make sure you hook the drive up to a primary, master SATA port - you'll only need to get a VIA card if your computer's onboard SATA won't work.

For powering the drive, buying a connectivity kit is very helpful and I would say that it's a necessity if you're going to be modding drives. Any connectivity kit would do it, if you don't have a local retailer you can check out these websites:
http://team-xecuter.com/where-to-buy/
http://www.360xtractorpro.com/360xtractorpro/360xtractor6fe1.html?opt=2

I personally have a Maximus Xtractor v1.2 with Spear and use the Xecuter LT switches for doing LiteOn 83850C v2 and 93450C drives. The best connectivity kits out there at the moment are the Xecuter CK3 Pro Rev. D and the Maximus Xtractor 2. These have the latest features but what I think is the most important is that they have resettable fuses for when you do something silly like plug the power cable into the drive upside down.

Now, for doing the 83850C v2 and 93450C LiteOn drives, you will need some extra hardware and all of it will require cutting some traces on the LiteOn PCB at the least. If you're only going to be doing your drive once (and not making this into a business or anything), then I would suggest getting the Xecuter LT Clip + LT Switch v2 Kit and the cheapest connectivity kit you can find (it just needs to be able to power your drive and switch the power on / off). If you're going to be doing many drives, I suggesting getting the Xecuter Probe II and a good connectivity kit (one of the two I mentioned before).

Before you start to mod your drive, make sure you read through some tutorials and know what you're doing as many noobs end up turning their 360 into a fancy DVD player on their first modding attempt.

Let me know if you need any more suggestions or help.

Re: Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

Hey Thanks For The Reply!
I Also Would Like To Know If MRA And Firmware Dump Is The Only Way To FLash 9x series lite on drives...and btw i came across a lt switch or something like that which was solderless.....
can i use that on a 9x series...
im good at soldering but i dont wanna risk the drive , if safer alternatives are possible.
any luck with a mod chip?
(thanks for answering my questions )

Re: Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

every method to flash the 93xx drive requires trace cutting and repair if you know how to solder then I would recommend just doing the MRA hack.

Re: Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

Are you planning on doing your drive only or are you planning on doing many other drives?

I would suggest getting a connectivity kit with PPTC fuses (resettable fuses) to prevent your drive from getting fried if you do something like plug the drive cable into the drive upside down. If you want to get safe, reusable products with good support I would suggest getting the Xecuter CK3 Pro (rev. D) with the Probe II. This might cost you a bit but you could get the money back by flashing other people's drives. This will allow you to flash all Xbox 360 drives (excluding the ones in the new slim, black Xbox 360s). If you do the MRA hack all you will need is some wire, some resistors (you should get 15,18,20 & 22 ohm - though most drives will work with a 20 ohm) and a switch. The MRA hack will require working with the LiteOn' s PCB: cutting traces, soldering, and repairing traces. If all you want to do is cut traces you can get the LT clip with the LT switch v2 and you won't have to solder and repair traces - but I would suggest the MRA hack or the Probe II as they are easy to use and are reusable.

Re: Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

Thanks For The Reply Twinbird & MrPete1985,
I Only Want To Mod My Drive (Not As A Service).
The MRA Method Would Definately Not Be My Choice.

I Have A Question n The LT Switch( Since I Want To Do This One Time Only), Is It Completely Solderless And Once Cutting The Traces Can i Use Conductive Glue As A Permanent Solution To Fix Traces Or Should I Solder A Bit On It?

Re: Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

Well Anyways Im Planning to buy it within 2 weeks.... so i hope lt clip with switch releases....

1)btw the lt clip v2 + lt switch v2 is a no solder one right?
is the lt clip the plastic thing and the lt switch the one with the thing that has a sticky side with glue which sticks on the pcb?
and do i have to remove it once im done flashing?

2)Do I really Need A Connectivity Kit For Flashing Lite ons(OnlyFor My Drive Not As Commercial jobs). Can i Just Hook It Up To My Motherboard sata cable and use the xbox psu to power the drive up?

3)If The LT Switch v2 doesnt release in time .... can i buy just a ck3 probe v2 (no connectivity kit ...etc)

4)Basically i Wanna flash any lite on possible within 40$ - 45$(Cheapest - Least Solder Method - Cut Traces Are No Prob With me!)

Re: Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

using the xbox as power source isnt recommened as it logs an error everytime you power it on without a dvd connected.

1.lt clip
http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54845

2. adviseable - due to above reason

3. probe v2 requires a connect kit (CK3 Pro advised!)

4. LT Clip has no soldering or glueing involved!

Re: Planning To Buy A New Xbox elite 120gig.....

thanks for the help....
for the lt switch 2 + clip , i was refering to the pic below the red led one where a guy is peeling out a sticker....so the board can stick on to the pcb....
until the LT clip + switch v2 gets released ill stick to probe II + ck3 pro.

any release date on the LT clip ?
