X3, Flashing LEDs, No Activity!

When I press either the power or eject button on my xbox, the X on the switch panel will light up red, the HD led will flash four times, and the eject button will alternate between orange and green, then the power will shut off. It will wait about 1 second and then repeat this two more times. The third time it stays on but the HD LED is off, teh X is red and the eject button is flashing red and green. There is no light on the power button. There is no video nor apparently any activity at all. If I remove the X3 from the pins, the xbox boots up like normal. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

The board and soldering looks VERY clean. A coworker of mine (with one of those $800 doller microscopes and Soldering stations and many years experience) did the soldering adn everything looks perfect. I tried resetting the banks but to no avail.

Now to ask a very nooby question...which button is the reset? You said to push the power and reset together but all I have are a power with the eject up above. when I push them together, I get the same result as before.

Sorry eject is also reset ..if u pressed it whilst the box is fragging it would do the whole power cycle thing again and return to frag.

possible u have a faulty x3 but not likely ...with no backup flash too then pretty sure soldering is the main cause.

Do u get two blue leds on the chip...if 1.6 board have u remembered the alt5V wire?

You dont say what version this is...if 1.6 or 1.6b have u done the 4 wire LPC rebuild, have u missed one of the connections or is it on the wrong point on the board.
It may be that the solder technique/quality is v good but has the LPC been constructed wrong.

Sorry, it is a 1.6. I used the little LPC board instead of the four wires. We have looked over adn over and it seems like everything is great. Yes I got the alt5v wire also but I get the same problem whether the wire is connected to the x3 or not.

Now, if I hold in the power switch, the xbox will boot normally but to the MS bios, but if I just tap it I get the three restarts.

Does anyone know of a place I can send my Xbox in to have the mod corrected? I live in Memphis,TN and would love to take it somewhere locally if possible.

You are probably very close to being done.

You didn't say, however, if you have two blue lights on the chip itself?

Yes, there are two blue lights on the chip that come on, as is the HD light on the switch plate. The X onthe switch plate is red.

I have the same exact problem. My mobo is version 1.6 ...

I have both LED lights on. I checked n resolder the LPC rebuild using wires on my 2nd try. Still the same thing .... Its always flashing orange n green for 1sec, xbox turn off, then the lights flash again, xbox turn off, then flash again and this time its green n red.

Sigh .... i dont know what pins should i check anymore =| ... you ppl have any ideas or suggestion ? .. I can boot up fine to M$ Dash when i hold the power button for some time

hi, i also seem to have this problem, i have an crystal xbox (manufactured oct 2004) so i guess its 1.6, i ordred the x3 + pro switch and lcd package, i spent 4 hours soldering, all solder points altho dull are good , but when i turn on power it just boots to ms bios, all switches work altho the X led stays red, on the chip are 2 blue lights and a red one, if i press the "protect" button on front the red led on chip changes to green, also the hdd led flashes as the msbios boots up,however i seem to have no "x3 bios screen come up"....do i have the wrong chip perhaps?
ive struggled 2 days now, ive been over all the connections and pcb rebuild "including the strange D0 instructions" several times they seem strong and "tight", no shorts, please help an xbox n()()b

(update) ok im back ;D, ive read a few post on here, and it wqas suggested i give the chip a little "wiggle" i did so and from time to time the blue led on the pro switch comes on and the x3 bios screen comes up, so i guess its just a bad solder point somewhere,

just need a little perseverence i guess ;P
ohh and it would only work with the pro switches set to "off" "on" "on" "off" "off"

I'm still not getting anything. I have wiggled teh chip as much as possible and still nothing.

Question, the problem that I have, it happens whether or not I have the alt5v wire connected to teh chip. Should the chip even light up without this connected?

Is this a 1.6? You should have two blue lights on the chip (which I see that you said you did) but if this is a 1.6, you have to have the 5v hooked up or you would not have two lights on.

Your right, if I unplug the 5v, I only get one blue light instead of two. I keep going over the baord and the solder points and can not find a thing wrong. Any more ideas?

im still having same problems, xbox seems to ignore chip, if i wiggle it towards back of xbox all the light on chip go out, if i pull it back to the front lights come on, but still boots to msbios - is a "wires only" install possible with the 1.6??

OMG!! i am such a n()()bian lmfao,
have you tried to "tap" the on off button, seems with me that if i press and hold the actual power button for more than split second, it boots to the msbios, however if i "literally flick" the power button it boots to the x3bios and gives a blue x icon on switch :S lol,
try it, as our problems seem to be so similar, altho now im scared to touch the damn thing to get the lid back on lol

if your in the uk, you can read a few other post, there seems to be a few freindly chaps about that are willing to install/fix it for you, there will be a fee tho prolly, (aka good will gesture) otherwise i dunno where you could take it :S
