Check the board for solder splashes or a raised trace. If you find a lifted trace go to Llama.com. He gives a bunch of help for xbox mishaps.

If it FRAGs with everything removed, you f**ked up a trace (like me).

Repair the trace or use some wire to rebuild the connection between the two points.

Wow, um, if you don't know what a trace is, you shouldn't be attempting an X3 install......

But, to answer your question, a trace is the copper link between points.

Samsung MS28 Problem.

A while back I had a successfully flashed 360 with iXtreme 5.1. A while back I tried to update to 1.61, this failed and the DVD drive would not read original games, backups or anything at all.

After that I accidentally erased the FW and the DVD drive would not eject when plugged in the Xbox. Now today I figured I'd try to reflash and see if it would work. I'm now using JF on the same comp as before and it cannot find the 360 drive anywhere! I tried dosflash and it did find something although I believe that is the hard drive, and with that I wont take any chances at all.

I would like to get some help resolving this issue. NOTE: I do have the OFW.

On a sidenote: I am using the same port on the motherboard as before, which is the one my DVD drive is usually connected to.

Re: Samsung MS28 Problem.

If you are using a via or nforce sata controller, you can use the vcc trick to set the drive into vendor mode.
Connect the drive up to your pc (same port as before, as you said) open jf, mtkflash tab, click intro and follow the popup instructions, when successful, you will have status 0x70 on the sammy, load ofw as source in firmtool, hacked firmware as target, spoof source to target then back to mtkflash tab to write the firmware from buffer.
Done!

Re: Samsung MS28 Problem.

Device intro failed as usual.

I read something about MTKflash on a floppy, care to give a step by step explanation on how to do that? I can't seem to find a good guide on it, that is understandable anyway.

Update: The drive does not show in the bios either, any ideas?

Re: Samsung MS28 Problem.

Done it by opening the DVD drive and sliding the thing in there, tray is half open but no effect. As I said the DVD drive does not show in BIOS either atm.

Re: Samsung MS28 Problem.

the bios thing usually isn't important

they won't show up in bios if they don't have firmware on them

you will have to experiment with tray half open and power cycling

try power cycling numerous time when sending the device intro

You dont need a samsung to be visible in bios or winblows, we arent flashing using windows api so it doesnt need to be detected on a hardware level.
1/2 tray open is only needed if there is hacked firmware present on the drive!
If it is indeed erased, all that is needed is intro
Instead of power cycling, try sending intro to the port before you power the drive on, so click intro, click yes, wait until you see the dots ...... then power the drive on.
BTW, it's unlikely mtkflash would work, it doesnt like erased drives, if all else fails and you must try a 16bit app, use dosflash.

Re: Samsung MS28 Problem.

Re: Samsung MS28 Problem.

Got it working at long last! I tried the above except for the 16bit thing but it did not seem to work. Eventually I got to switching the SATA port and Dl'ing the newest JF and violá it was detected and flashed successfully to iXtreme 1.61 and it works like a charm.

Thanks for all the help, appreciate it!
