Ok so everything was going fine with my X3 for a while and now ive run into a problem. The front panel thingy wont work. It doesnt turn on any color and the leds dont work. So, becasue of that my x-box will only boot to the MS dash not the mod one. any ideas? Oh and ive checked and re checked the connections on the front thing they are well attached.

Maybe you bumped it and broke it. Not to knowledgable on them.. however I know you can purchase them for a few $'s, if not cheaper...

when your xbox is turned ON with x3 connected, do see two lights ON
on your x3?

this shows power is going to your x3 and the panel gets its power
to light up from the chip.

if the chip doesn't have the two lights ON or just one light ON..
then you have to really check your points again by reheating them to let the solder flow properly or just add more solder

OK well i checked it all over and i found what COULD be the problem but it seems unlikely. the lead for either the HDD or LAN light has somehow come out of the thing that conencts it to the X3. I got it back in just fine and it seems like it's making conenction. But the front thing still doesnt work.

I can only see one light on the X3 but that's all ive ever been able to see. it's nto liek i can turn it on and then flip the X3 over and examine it closely lol. It is a bit hard to tell if there's more than one light on.

on a side note where can i find a new panel?

its definitely a soldering problem..

you need two lights to light up on the chip..

its very obvious there is two lights when they light up..

basically, your not getting 3.3v power to pins 9 or 15 and the front panel draws this power directly through the x3.

you can take the x3 off the pin header and the xbox should boot fine.
then take a multimeter to see for yourself if you are getting 3.3v power from pins 9 and 15.. also, check pin 6 if its getting 5v

but why would it do this all of a sudden? my X3 has been working perfectlky for a few weeks now.

I also dont happen to have a multimeter so should i just go back and add a touch more solder to the points?

it happens because the points have too little solder on it or there is a fat blob of solder thats not connecting the points properly.

What it happens? After a while, xbox gets hot and the solder melts just enough to cause the point to be disconnected.

Many people had the same problem. Just have to reheat the points and add more solder.

Cool, thanks man good to know. i checked my X3 and it was my 5v lead, the only thing i had a few problems with. But, i think i got it now thanks for all the help.

I have a Question. If I read this correctly I have my xbox install with the pinheader config. Its version 1.0. The X3 boots and works fine. But I dont get any Led's on my display. That could be due to the problems with pin's 9 or 15 and pin 6?

No, that's not correct. He was referring to the LEDs on the actual X3 chip board. If the 3.3V one is not lighting up that points to one of 2 different pins on the pin header. The top left pin (looking at it from the bottom of the motherboard) and the 4th pin down on the left side. They are either not connected or are contacting something else that they shouldn't be ... basically a soldering problem. If the front LED panel is not working properly, this could be any number of different problems. In this particular case, the person with the front panel LED problem only saw 1 out of the 2 blue LEDs on the X3 chip. This is not surprising. I had a situation very similar to this one just this past weekend. I modded a box and all blue LEDs lit up correctly. Then a little while later, the front panel went dead and the box was fragging. I looked at the X3 chip and noticed that the 3.3V LED was no longer lit. I took out the motherboard and noticed a TINY loose metal particle (or solder) bridging a 3.3V pin and some other lead. I scraped it away and the box worked fine afterwards. This person's situation sounds suspiciously familar to what happened to me !
