OH MY! Didn't know about liveinfo.

If you're reading this thread looking for hope, this fixed things for me. Liveinfo (beta2) by team assembly.

YOU STILL NEED A COPY OF YOUR EEPROM.BIN (luckily I still had that kicking around) and it can give you a password based on the HD.

Wahoo!

No idea if that works, but in response to j0siah again, LiveInfo successfully game me the correct unlock key for a drive that i DID NOT have the eeprom.bin file for.

So, no, you DO NOT NECESSARILY NEED your EEPROM.bin file to unlock a drive. I've been successful with this with a Western Digital, though I hear it doesn't work on seagates.

Really? It worked without the EEPROM.BIN? Weird.

My drive was a Maxtor, but the password it gave without the EEPROM.bin was entirely different than the password it gave WITH the EEPROM.bin. Never tried the former, only the latter.

Now there are 2 different password sets on ATA Locks. A User password and a Master Password. I'm just speculating, but maybe one gets set with a value derived from just the HD and one gets derived with a value from the password &eeprom?

Not that it matters. I GOT MY 160GIG BACK.

And if I didn't already say thanks OP. THANKS!

Yeah, sounds weird, I know. But it worked, and I was stoked. Could have been a fluke, which is why I'm dieing to hear of someone else recovering a drive this way with no (ZERO) backup info (eeprom, key, whatever). Cause it worked like a charm for me.

And hey, no thanks necessary. Glad it worked for you - that is what these forums are for. And besides... I didn't come up with the tool, or the method, just pointed you in the right direction.

Am I correct in saying that if I unlock my hard disk now with my X3, then lock it again with config magic, i will be able to unlock it with the master password TEAMASSEMBLY in the future if anything terrible should happen to my xbox (eeprom etc)?

After reading all the problems people have had I'm going for the preventative measures.

yeah, that will work, but even easier is backing up the info from within x3cl (creates info.txt, or something similar - it's late), and just keep that backed up to your PC. Will contain the user lock code (the one the xbox uses to unlock your drive.

again, it's late, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Have enjoyed this thread. Have a question. You have to have a locked drive for Xbox Live use, right? If your not using Xbox Live and don't lock your new drive, WD250, would you be able to use, format it, for use in another Xbox if your current system went down, like dead.

If your drive is not locked and it worked fine in your previous xbox, i don't see why you would have to format it. Just plug & Play

hey,

you can grab liveinfo at

http://www.team-assembly.com/downloads/

And for everyone else. Were there any special tricks for unlocking your HD without the eeprom backed-up? Did you just load the blank eeprom? Also, did you load any eeprom info at all? And if you did, what info? Then just hit reset and it unlocked? I tried the password it gave me at the bottom and put that in the unique hdd key and no dice. Not sure what confounder or dvd kit zone are. Does the password go in the online key and the unique hdd key. Also, does it matter what xbox version I use? Im sorry this is a little long winded, but I need specifics here.
I would love how to get learned up and out of noob status!!:)

Ok,
I took the password it gave me and booted into UnlockX and entered the password. Did this a few times. Triple checked the password. Still no dice. This is a maxtor 300 gig I am talking about so I have some ambition to ge this done.

Any help!!
I am doing something wrong

hmmmmm, so whats to stop someone writing a virus that locks all your hard drives with a random key? Scary thought!
There is a Virus that will do that comes in the form of a Trojan, the name escapes me at the moment but I came acrossed it during some data recovery research. I do not think it does a random key though.

Best way i fould is

1)Making a backup of your EEPROM
2)Using another Xbox to unlock it with the EEPROM Backup
3)Using ConfigMagic in the first place to lock the HD 100% recovery rate

Become a movie star in your living room with Yoostar 2 !

This looks awesome !

A new videogame that lets people recreate their favorite cinema scenes hits the shelves today. Yoostar 2 allows players to act out roles such as Top Gun’s Maverick or Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz using mapping technology. The game, released for Xbox and PS3, gives movie fans the chance to create new scenarios in a variety of iconic sets, such as the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. You too can be in Casablanca: A screenshot from new interactive game Yoostar 2, which lets you 'appear' in films.

Setting the scene: Yoostar 2 is released on Xbox and PS3 this week

Be the star: The game uses the Xbox Kinect and PlayStation Move's camera technology to 'cut out' players electronically and add their image into a movie scene, such as here in Terminator.

'Seeing yourself on screen is magical,’ said Greg Fischbach of maker Yoostar.

‘We knew if we could take Hollywood technology and put it in a home game that would be very powerful.

‘Hollywood studios were keen to co-operate.

'We have 80 scenes in the box, with more to download, and we hope to add 10-20 new scenes each week.’

Players can also upload their performances to a website or place them on Facebook and Twitter, where friends can vote on how well they did.

‘We are competing with £300,000 equipment in a Hollywood studio, but we think it looks pretty good,’ said Mr Fischbach.

‘It’s the first game of its kind and we want to expand it.

‘We will be adding everything from sports to news, so you can take part in whatever you want.’
