<-- new to xboxes, bear with me.

i've searched the forums and read similar symptoms, but i just have to go ahead and post this:

after having modded a few of these puppies, i figured, "what the hell, let's see what all the fuss is about..." so i bought one just before christmas (yes, with two lame ass games! top-spin-something and ncaa-blah-blah). i just got my x3 kit a couple of days ago and installed it with all of the anticipation of a 4 year old on christmas eve. things are not good!

it has a phillips dvd drive and samsung ram, so i'm not sure it's a 1.6b although i'm pretty sure it'd have to be after what i've read thus far. at this point, however, i'm not sure that the 1.6b thing would have much to do with it since the x3 should come pre-flashed with a compatible bios by now. so, where i'm at, here are the symptoms:

1. both 3.3 and 5 volt leds are shining bright, no mistake about that.
2. a quick tap of the power button results in the box 'booting' to no video and no audio, after rebooting twice.
3. a longer 'hold' of the power button results in the box booting to the microsoft 'set the date and time' screen'.
4. holding down the 'white button' as i boot gets me nowhere.
5. the led on the x3 front switch bank never goes blue, it ALWAYS remains red, although the blue led for hd activity stays relatively busy.

at this point i'm just waiting to hear, "hey jackass! fix your soldering job on the lpc!" and i won't at all be opposed to an answer like that, even though i've been soldering for years and years and am fairly confident that a bridged/missed solder joint is not the issue here. to hell with my confidence, though, at this point i would like to hear someone point me in the right direction even if it is a cold solder joint or one that could use a bit more flux and solder. just give me something! where have i gone wrong, why can't i even get a blue led on the front bank switch?

cheers!

Try to disconnect the wires on the mod chip that go to X3 Switch. Do not disconnect them from the out-side. If the wires got cut it will cause a short between the controller port and the metal case.

any ideas/flames/musings/told-ya-so's?

nope. i forgot to mention that. power+eject gets me no-where. it's the same as just hitting power, i get the frag lights and no vid. thanks for the idea though.

well, she's fixed. it was the solder job, kind of like i figured but didn't want to admit to myself. :)

fellow noobs: if your freakin' xbox is fragging when you try booting to the chip, your problem is your solder job. there's your confirmation. even the best fine pitch/surface mount solder guy in the world (me! :D) falls prey to human fallability now and then. get over your ego and fix your box.

:D :D :D

Operation Flashpoint: Red River trailer is deadly serious

We have no idea what it's like to be a Marine -- our flabby, unattractive mass you'd call "a body" is hardly built to, like, run and stuff. Thankfully for us, we can sit back and play" as the Marines depicted in this Operation Flashpoint: Red River media assault.
