I installed my X3 on my 1.6 xbox the other day followed everything exactly used the PCB rebuild all points are done well. When I try to load with the chip enabled I get a FRAG. If I try to load it with the chip disabled it loads fine. what should I do?

P.S. I read as much of the Forums as humanly possible so dont yell at me if it is covered already

How did you load with the chip disabled ? Did you use the long press on the power button or did you remove the chip altogether ?

Make sure you flashed the correct version of the X3 Bios, i.e. the version desigined specifically for the 1.6 xbox. If you happened to accidently flash the other Bios (version for 1.0-1.5 xbox), then your Xbox will frag when you try to enable the modchip. Simply reflash the chip with the 1.6 version of the X3 bios.

If, however, you haven't flashed your bios yet and you're simply trying to enable the modchip so that you can get to the FLashbios screen, then check your D0 connection. A good D0 connection is required in order to enable the modchip.

Hope that helps you out :D

If you have a multimeter you can verify the connection by performing a continuity check. If you don't have a multimeter the only other option is to visually examine your soldering job, and re-solder the connection.

I forgot to ask, when you do a long press on the power button and you disable the modchip, does the RED X3 logo light up on the external switch?

yes the red light comes on when i do a long press and should i remove the PCB rebuild and put some solder on the d0 point to make sure that it contacts the point on the PCB?

Just to verify, you have the PCB rebuild and the grey X3 D0 wire soldered to the D0 point, correct?

As for re-soldering the connection, you don't need to entirely remove the PCB rebuild, just remove some of the solder for the D0 connection, and then re-solder the connection. You may not even need to remove the solder, it may just require some re-heating and reworking until you make a solid connection.

In any case, I would highly suggest purchasing a cheap multimeter it could save you a lot of time and trouble.

i have the grey conected to the big pad that says D0 next to it that is where it goes right? What im not sure of is if that part is touching the d0 point on the xbox's mother board itself so should i put some solder on the motherboards d0 point to make sure it touches the pad?

LOL ok, did you manage to resolve your problem?

Anyways this is how your board should look, the only thing missing in the picture is the grey D0 wire, which should be soldered to the D0 pad on the PCB

i re-checked and redid all of my soldering but it still doesnt work i cant use flashbios or anything i am starting to think it might be the chip. sometimes when i redo the solder it doesnt do and the chip wont start but i have it back to doing the FRAG so should i try to get my supplier to send me a new chip?

Do you know someone that has an X3 install working properly, so that you can place your X3 into their Xbox and confirm that your X3 is defective?

Have you checked your LPC solder jobs? My initial diagnosis was incorrect, it seems to me that there's a bad LPC connection somewhere, check your pin header connections and make sure that they're all good.

i had a friend thats major is electronics look at my solder jobs and she thinks that it might have been too much resin in the solder so i am going to redo 2 points she showed me on the LPC that didnt look too good and try that.

Have you redone those 2 solder points that your friend pointed out might need re-soldering? Let us know if that fixes your problem.
