X3 modchip needed?

do i need a X3 modchip and X3 stuff before i can use the X3 Deluxe Case? how many Hdd's can i store in the case? and do i swich between the HDD's or are they all runing at the same time? Where can i buy it, on a internet shop? shall i place it in my xbox myself? can i replace my matrix modchip?
