X3 on chip controls?

I just received an X3 on Wednesday. It looks like the flash disable switch on the chip has been moved to the side. I do not know how to tell if it is enabled or disabled. It also looks like I can enable/disable it from the front bank select switch. In addition, there is a kind of circular knob type thing in the upper corner. What does it do?

Can someone also explain to me the implications of how I configure my banks when installing a bios?

Thanks!

use this image to see if your flash protect is enabled

If the chips flash protect is on then it WILL be protected. If it is off on the chip then flash protection is determined by the switch setting on the external panel.

Lastly the circular knob on the chip is used for the XLCD contrast settings (if you have one)

Thanks for the info, but my chip does not look exactly like the one in the picture. The flas protect switch is on the side of the chip and faces outward. Thus, I am not sure when it is on or off. What should I see different in the boot up of it is on or off? I have not been able to notice anything thus far. Is there a way to tell without trying to flash it and it failing?

Also, I still need to understand using the banks on the chip. Any help will be appreciated.

Have you looked at the front page? The chip is the X3CE and has a little led that changes color between red and green to show you. It also has words on it for reading that tell you something too. There’s also a sticky thread around here for reading as well, it will show and tell you how to set your switches for each of the 8 256k banks and combinations.

I just noticed that my chip's information printed on it regarding the flash protect light is backwards from the information in the picture on the home page describing the X3ce. My chip states that red is protect and green is unprotect. Any ideas which is correct?

Also, when my external bank switch is plugged in, the flash protect switch onboard the X3 does nothing. The light remains red. The light only turns green when I switch the external flash protect to the on position. Is this correct behavior? It would make sense to me that the external switch overrides the internal one when plugged in, but I have been unable to find any correlating information.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

I also found...

I have also found that when I cannot accomplish going into backup mode, by pushing eject and power silmultaneously. I just installed the chip and I have never flashed a backup bios. Does this have an effect, or does it sound like a wiring problem?

I am trying to sort out everything before I close the box back up.

Thanks for any help!
