x3 or x2.6?

I have a 1.6 crystal that has an x3 running XBMC and all is sweet. However my son has a pre 1.6 which I am looking to mod, my question is, all he needs is the ability to play games from the harddrive via XBMC, do I need all the features of the x3 or will the x2.6 do, it wont have an LCD or anything like that. Appreciate any comments

X2.6 should do the job if your son is more into the gaming aspect of it
if you know he's not going to use the features that the x3 has to offer then you're better off with the x2.6

thanks for the info, does anyone know of a page that gives a direct comparison to see wot im giving up by going the 2.6 route
