hi,
I have problem to get to my xbmc now.
it starts happening when I "static shock" when I turn off my xbox yesterday. after that this happen

It seems that when I tried to turn on my xbox regularrly it went to the red led instead of the blue.

if I hit only the eject for a sec (like i usually turn on to go to xbmc), the led go to purple and then to blue, and it loads the flash bios 3.0.0 but I can't control it with my xbox controler.

I can't make it purple if I press both power and eject buttons.
but if I hit the eject, then eject again it will go to the purple but the flash bios already load and still i can't move for the option in flash bios by the controler.

I already re-touch all the soldered pins. but no luck fixing it.
however, it runs fine for the regular xbox (red led)

does my x3 fried? and needs to get a new one? or there is another area that I need to fix?
and I have v1.6

thanks in advance...

I installed my X3 about 2 weeks ago and everything has been working fine until today. I was running the X3 and got ready to turn off my Xbox. When I pushed the power button I had static discharge to the Xbox and now when I do a short press of the power button the X3 BIOS won't power up. I tried a different BIOS setting and still nothing. I booted to my backup which came up fine and tried to reflash with both Bank 1234: on on off off
Bank 5678: off on off off and I get an unknown flash halting error. Any ideas on what to do next?
Thanks

what i dont understand is how you discharged (wow sounds funny) on the power button if its all plastic, or atleast i thought it was... Have you moved your xbox around recently? Try checking the connections of the cables and make sure they are snug on the reset/eject board or even the switch.

I have not moved my XBOX at all. I simply pressed the power button, I felt a shock and then I tried to boot with the X3 mod chip and I get the red light which means I am running the Microsoft BIOS instead. I can boot into the backup BIOS though but I can not reflash. I have a theory but I would like to hear from other people on how to possibly fix it before I draw any conculsions.

when booting to backup, at the beginning it says flash type, what does it say there please.

there are two flash protect switch's the one on the inside and the one on the switch bank that could be your problem or you could have writen a bad disk

good luck

I forgot to include that I was flashing from the network. I flashed from the network before with no problems using the cromwell BIOS.

okay so cd is ruled out but there is still the posiblity of a messed up file or like i said before one of the flash protect switches could be on

It says

read only=????
man=0x09
dev=0x00

The external switch is off and so is the internal one.

resolder your pins 13 and 14 on the lpc bus. if you can get cromwell, but not the x3 bios, thats your problem.

So do you think that the static discharge dislodged the solder joint?

Thanks

I have noticed an increase in bull posts, this seems to coincide with a report that the X3 might be blowing up 1.6 Xbox's.

We really have hit the limit with this one. There is NO WAY you could have a static discharge through the power button.

Fact is if this is a real post - you have not installed it correctly - and you have a either a short or a dry joint.

Where should I start...........?

I would think that if you have such a high level of understanding regarding switches that you would also know (I am assuming here and we all know what that does.) that a switch has to have some metallic parts inside it somewhere. Voltage is defined as a potential difference between to given points (electrically speaking). When the potential difference is high enough between to points electricity will begin to flow between those points until the two points do not have a high enough difference in electrons to continue electrical flow. When an air gap is induced into this equation and the difference is high enough we see a spark (roughly 10,000 volts per inch varying with frequency some) I would also find it hard to believe your explanation of an improper install if I was able to successfully flash my X3 BIOS and use it for two weeks.

I was asking for help concerning a legitimate problem that I am having with my system and I find your level of understanding to be substandard. If you do not have an answer or idea and or can not portray it in a way that would be helpful then don't bother coming up with some Bull post as you put it in response to my question.

To everyone else that has tried to help me so far I thank you for your responses.

it is true that the switch does have metal in it somewhere but heres where the whole static discharge thing doesn't work.... if you did somehow send a charge through the switch, the switch is grounded to the metal casing of the interior xbox case. which means it would have just gone to ground.
naoneo said:
the power going through the switch panel isnt enough to jump the gap between the plastic and your skin, static discarge doesnt happen if the static cant be earthed, im assuming your xbox wasnt in peices and attached to the floor with metal bolts, and im also assuming you hadnt been sat there for a few hours prior, rubbing yourself with baloons and other sources of static charge.

it's more probable that you "discharged" onto the metal casing inside the xbox, though even if this is the case, that cage is earthed too buddy.

simply put, far short of being hit by a bolt of lightning whilst turning on/off your xbox, it is not possible for static charge to jump through a low voltage power button and make the modchip "random"

So how about you check those solder points and stop pointing fingers at freak science?

Are you still able to boot to your backup bios?

If you are and can't flash through the network then try a different way.

Re: x3 problem -- can't go to blue light anymore? "stat

hehe... thanks for the link..
i thought there is more.

however, I tried that suggestion from other forum
but when I try to re-flash the bios
it said
"unknown flash! halting."
I did it with both HTTP and dvd
and I already recheck the protection is off from the switch in the chip and in the switcher.

what should I do next?

Re: x3 problem -- Static shock and chip disablement

Ok so I am apparently in the same boat Liquid_Zero....
I modded and flashed (to 1234) my 1.6 XBox with a X3 with LPC rebuild(no wire installs here) and a 200 gig HD a couple of weeks ago. Worked just perfectly, played games, X3 is enabled, used X3 Config, Evox, etc....just perfect.
So 2 days ago I raise my ass up off the couch after re coloring my flubber and such, walk over to the XBox, and press the power button to turn it off AND SHOCK THE HOLY HELL OUT OF MYSELF.....ON THE POWER BUTTON, (or power/eject button panel if you wanna get technical)....I felt the shock (which hurt like hell btw) BETWEEN the panel and the button itself...
I just happened to be lookin at the X3s external switch, and the instant I felt the shock the X went from BLUE(enabled) to RED(disabled). It hasnt booted right since, will not boot with chip enabled(blue), will boot with chip disabled(red), and will boot to backup(purple). I get FlashBios screen but I get the same message "Flash type: Read Only". I have the same bios disc (DVD) that I originally flashed with and worked, but no matter what bank (1024k or over) I try to flash to I get "Unknown Flash/Halted". Yeah I hear you all out there just scrambling to tell me that "your flash protection is on dude!" Only problem is I am a reasonably intelligent person who can tell the difference between a switch in the on or off position, and BOTH the X3's and the external switch's Flash Protection switches are OFF....one more time.....OFF..... still won't flash....
I currently have the XBox pulled apart and inspected it earlier....no obvious componets burned, no trace damage or broken solder that I can see(and I spent over an hour with a bright light lookin real close).....
I would appreciate any real attempts at advice or help from anyone who might know something. I made this post long in order to explain in the most detail every aspect of my problem. Thank you.

 And yes if the static charge is powerful enough, and the airspace between me and the conductive contact point( PROBABLY NOT THE PLASTIC BUTTON BUT THE POWER/EJECT BOARD BUTTON JUST BEHIND IT!!! which coincidentally is hooked through the small switchboard DIRECTLY to the X3) is small enough the charge will ARC....just to head off the people who cry "plastic can't conduct". but i'm better now......

Having a problem???

Im trying to transfer to a brand new 250gb HDD... Im doing this via computer with a usb data trasnfer cable. I put the folder in the proper place with all the files in it... it starts to transfer, gets like 75% done and then xport360 errors and has to close. Now you would think all those files i already transfered would be visible when i reopen NOPE! Can't see them?ive tried xplorer360, xport, and xbox360commander... Anyone have a better way. Ps this is for jtag use, so i know someone might say well just put it on your xbox and install game that way... I understand that but using it differently... Just wanted to clearify. Hope someone has a better program or the solution. Thanks!
