ok, i've had problems with this install. i've done at least 20 installs of modchips and this is the worst install ever. i have 2 motherboards to work with, neither works. the first one boots up normally but i have no video. then it frags after boot. i'm guessing an error message. but i can't see it to tell which one it is. the second motherboard is a 1.6. i have done 4 installs to 1.6 boards. this board is giving me so many problems. it won't boot. it is fragging but in a wierd way. its flashing green and amber on boot. with or without the modchip. neither work. and i can't get into the back up bios either. i am on a time constraint here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok so im right

If you have a v1.6 use FlashBIOS 3.0.1, if you have a v1.6b use FlashBIOS 3.0.3.

My chip was shipped with cromwell 3.01. I can varify that it works just fine in a v1.6 box. Also, If neither box will boot with that chip, how do you know that you are running 3.01.

it booted fine before this crap got rolling. i had it installed, i redid the person's solder (he tried to do it himself) and then it stopped working. he had a 1.0 with the solid lpc. he took a drill to them so he could use the pinheader. i think that may be why that board stopped working. but i can see no visible damage. remember, that is the board with the no video but sound on boot without the chip, and frag with the chip. the 1.6 is fragging all the time. i think there is a lifted trace.

when you mean he took a drill to them i really hope you dont mean he drilled the pin header out? as i would say that may well be the problem but without looking at it it is hard to tell. but i would never use a drill!

always use desoldering braid!

i know to use desoldering braid. personally i would have just used the wire install. but he didn't. i'm assuming that board is fried. bu t i still have the problem with the 1.6 mobo. it is fragging. but its not red and green. its on-off-on-off-on- flashing orange.
