X3 stopped working

I installed the X3 with switch panel and LPC rebuild on a 1.6 XBOX. I flashed to the correct 1.6 X3 bios. I installed a 250Gb hard drive and copied over EvolutionX. Everything worked fine for several days while copying data onto the hard drive over FTP. I then played a few games from the hard drive to test it. Perfect!

I then gave it to my brother who stored it in his car over night in 30 degree F weather waiting for Christmas. He then gave it to his child only to find out it doesn't work anymore. No lights are working on the outside switch panel. No blue or red modchip light, and no LAN or HDD light. It just boots to a error code 16. 16 is understandable since EvolutionX is setup to be the dashboard which will not work without the modchip. I checked my solder points and all looks good. When supplying power to the XBOX with the cover off, I can see the blue light onboard the X3 PCB. That tells me that at least some kind of power is getting to the X3 PCB.

What could go wrong? Is the X3 suceptible to cold weather or something? Surely 30 degree F is way above the minimum temperature, right?

I will try putting the original hard drive back in to see if the XBOX itself is ok.

I put the original HDD back in and it works fine. I can use the modded XBOX as if it wasn't modded. If I put the new 250Gb HDD in, I can only play real games from the original DVD. It is as if the modchip doesn't even exist. Please, any suggestions?

Well, it the X3 is working again.

I got out my voltmeter and noticed that the 3.3V pin on the header was not showing any voltage. That would explain the modchip not working and the external switch LEDs not working. My guess is that the cold weather caused some of my solder points to contract (wild guess). Anyway, to fix my problem, I just re-melted my solder at a few of my points to perhaps allow it to rebond to the contacts. Who knows, but it is working again.

The XBOX stopped working again. This time, no cold weather can be blamed. Apparently, the 3.3V problem on pin 15 is a common one. What is the best solution to this problem. I haven't found a consistent answer. It worked, it stopped working, it worked, and now it stopped working again. Can a bad solder joint do that? Can I find an alternate 3.3V source?

this thread is certianly a find. I transported my xbox to a friends and when i got there I got this exact same problem. a few of the pins were loosened. so I resoldered them but i still get this problem.

just so i'm on the same page the assumption is that pin 15 isn't transfering power. this could be due to a bad solder, a bad pin, or something wrong on the board maybe? well i'm hoping it's just the solder point. if i figure anything out i'll post back, but more likely than not i'll be rechecking this thread to see if you figure anything out.

apparently cold can just mutilate the solder points. also it might have entirely killed the electronics i mean seriously its frikin cold out ther this time of year.
