X3 unable to Flash BIOS (and boot issue)

First of all, I have a 1.6 mobo with the X3CE.

I have a few different problems occuring. The first is that the power/eject adapter won't let me power off or eject the DVD tray while plugged into the X3CE. If the system is powered off and I plug the cable in, the system will boot automatically with the chip disabled (RED X on the front panel). If I don't use the cable at all and boot up, the chip will always boot disabled (RED X on front panel).

I have been able to get to the FlashBIOS 3.0.1 (which is the correct version for a 1.6 XBOX) screen by simultaneously plugging the cable in and pressing the power and eject button. But, when I try to flash by disc, I always get a "Unknown flash! Halted" error. I've tried 2 different bios', a 1mb and a 256k. The light on the X3CE is red (unprotect) and the switches on the front are set to on,on,off, off, off. Also, to turn the XBOX off or to eject or retract the DVD tray, I have to unplug the red power/eject adapter cable.

Also, when I finally get to the FlashBIOS screen (by performing the actions stated above), the first screen will always have Flash Type: Read Only??? manf=0x09, dev=0x00. Sort of like the second picture from Team Xecuter FlashBIOS. It doesn't matter if the light is green or red on the chip or if I unplug the front panel switches.

If my soldering was bad, would I still be able to get the FlashBIOS screen??

I've also checked the power/eject adapter for bad soldering but didn't find anything wrong.

If anybody has anything, please please let me know. I have no idea what to do next. Nobody seems to have a solution.

You have to make sure the Flash Protect is turned off before flashing. If you have the default x3 switch then turn bank #5 off, then flash your chip.

First of all, try taking out the extra power/eject board and then turning the box on. This will mean the chip is slways ON , also if it solves your problems, you know the fault is with this eject board. Could be the sticky pad on the rear or dodgy soldering contacts.

Download 1959_1.6PLUS from the usual places - make sure it's the .BIN inside the .RAR file - this is important and it should be exactly 1024kb.

Disconnect the front X3 switch - yes, that too, just in case there is a fault.

If at all possible use http:// to flash the box.

Now ... boot up and you should get the FLASH BIOS screen - if not and you've overwritten it, you may have to reconnect the switches, boot to the backup and try again with the switches in the normal on,on,off, off, off position.

Flash away !

Good Luck.

By the way, an problems AFTER doing this will be with soldering - they normally are !!

EDIT: No need to rename to BIOS.BIN either - leave it !!!!!! Download file, and try it again.

Well, the PLUS version of the 1959 is only if you have a 1.6 box with an X3.

When it says 'BIOS.BIN' this is a general term for the BIOS that you are using, as this method works for, say, the 2.6 chips as well - so it's just kinda generic. There is certainly no need to rename it - just make sure you have the right file.

If at all possbile though, as I say, flash via netork - SO much less hastle! You dont have to make a disc image or dummy file or anything - just hook it up, select network and flash - job done, go home, put ya feet up and run Avalaunch !

Good luck anyway ...
