X3 V1.6b FlashBIOS Freeze HELP!!!

So I got the X3 with the Xapter for my 1.6b motherboard. I've installed these in friends boxes before and they were a breeze. The problem comes when getting into t he FlashBIOS screen. On the general ON ON OFF OFF OFF bank setting I get a blank screen with green led that turns Orange/Amber after about 5 seconds.

I did some research and tried the OFF ON OFF OFF OFF setting and voila! FlashBIOS3.0.3 initialized. Everything seemed great until I went to try and select an option to flash. Everything was frozen. I couldn't even select an option or move up or down through the options. I tore the box apart, reinstalled the XAPTER made sure all the pegs where where they need to be, reseated the X3 and checked all the wires... Yet, same problem...

What is going on here?

if useing after maket controller they dont work well in flashbios
you need a ms controller or dvd remote
remember to change your switch setting back to ON ON OFF OFF OFF when you flash the chip
then flash back bank useing x3 bios guile in x3 bios guide below

Went to GameSTOP and picked up a beat up old MS Controller for 19 bux. Menu worked fine! I guess the next question is WHY the 3rd party controllers don't work for this. Hmmmph...

Ive installed and have exactly the same problem. Flashbios will boot into version 3.03 with the second switch on. I have a MS controller, part number x08-69873, read somewhere that the x08 has poroblems?

What controller do i need to go find?
