I was just wondering if you had a hybrid Xbox. It's unlikely, but not altogether impossible.

I wouldn't worry about it right now - if it's working, lets leave it at that!

Flashing a Hitachi GDR-3120L

Hi, folks.

I have just dismantled my first 360. The drive is hooked up to a sata port on my mobo but i am unsure on how to proceed further because i am getting conflicting advice on how to flash the Hitachi GDR-3120L properly.

Some are suggesting that i should use the SLAX method to put the drive into Mode B while others are saying that it's not necessary and that Jungle Flasher does all the work for you automatically. I've also seen something mentioned about some audio cd trick but i have no idea what that's supposed to do.

This would be my first flashing of a 360 drive. I just want to be sure that i do it correctly because i hear that this particular drive is prone to bricking.

I'd appreciate it if somebody that has experience with this drive could provide me with a simple step by step guide on how to flash it.

Thank you.

I did read it. For some reason the drive is not being detected by Jungle Flasher.
I tried several sata ports on my motherboard but it didn't make a difference.

Port IO is greyed out by the way. From what i understand there's a driver issue with the x64 bit version of windows. I am using Windows 7 x64.

Do you know what type of sata chipset you have on your PC? Only certain types are compatible with Jungleflasher.

I have a EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI board. As for the chipset, i believe it's ICH10R.

Re: Flashing a Hitachi GDR-3120L

you need to use the primary port which your hdd uses move the hdd to another port then use that one
make sure the drive is powered on before you run jf
and if using vista or windows 7 run as administrator
or the portio drivers wont work

Re: Flashing a Hitachi GDR-3120L

I've tried every port on the motherboard. Yes, it's on.
Yes, i ran as administrator since UAC is disabled. Yes, i also disabled Driver Signature Enforcement during booting. (f8)

From what i understand, the port io method is meant to be used if you have a VIA card. I don't have one on either one of my systems that's why it remains greyed out.

According to some users on the net, many of them had issues with Jungle Flasher not being able to detect the drive thus being forced to use the SLAX Boot CD to set the drive into mode b.

That's the same motherboard I have on my gaming PC, it's an Intel chipset which is not supported. I tried mine several times, trying different things, before I realized the chipset wasn't compatible.

Great. So, will i have to get a VIA card then?

Also, where can i get a list of the chipset's JF does support?

Re: Flashing a Hitachi GDR-3120L

Problem solved. It's definitely a chipset compatibility issue.
I replaced the abit board on my old system with a Gigabyte that i was just about to sell. It recognized the drive immediately and i flashed it without any issues.

Which software is the most suitable for burning 360 games?

I am asking because i am having issues with imgburn. I am using Verbatim dual layer discs. I've patched the .iso with agbx360. I've selected the .dvd file created by agbx360, put the layerbreak on 1913760 like suggested by numerous sources and write speed is at 2.4x. A few percent into burning, i run into an i/o error in imgburn. I usually use Nero to burn all of my stuff but i don't have it currently installed on this new system that i recently put together.

jungleflasher does support intel chipsets, however because its ich10 then its more than likely to be running with ahci and raid enabled in the bios,
if your os has been installed with this on, then disabling it with cause the system not to boot and you may get bsod,
the only way round this would be a fresh install of os with ahci and raid disabled in the bios,
probably easier to find another pc like you did or a via card
Pleased you got sorted, this post was for info for anyone else having same problems.
