I finished modding a 1.6 xbox with the X3 chip. It was cool cause I played games backups on it and so on. But when I woke up the next day, I started transferring over some games that i had on the hdd into my pc. FlashFXp terminated connection, so i went by the xbox. I saw the led around the eject button flash orange and green. So I turned off the xbox and powered it on. Just to see the xbox was turning on and off 3 times and fraging red and green. i removed all of the components, except the pinheader. But it still frags, please help a poor man out. i tried to look for broken traces and solder splash but I could not find anything suspecious. Please help.

i'd resolder those pins, they don't look too good.

i thought i had mine soldered good, then it quit working after a month!
i resoldered the pinheaders and now it's fine, so solder connections can deffinately work and then all of a sudden quit. deffinately resolder all the pins.
i deffinately see a few of them that look like they have no solder at all.

No, I removed the solder thinking that it was the problem. Only a little solder is left over that my solder braid did not pick up. And is still frags after the cleaning up.

I doubt it, the only place I used the soldering iron on top of the mobo was to connect the alternative 5v to the leg as indicated.

Yes, the lpc was rebuilt. If it wasnt, it would not work in the first place. The solder is cleaned off. Still trying to crack this one. Any sugestions.

I think I'm ready to call it quits and throw in the towel :( . Unless some1 does mobo repairs. I have two mobos to be repaired. I cant see any way to repair it.

OK, have you resoldered the pins after clearing them off, cos you won't get very far by just removing the solder and leaving it at that.
If you haven't you need to resolder them with some more solder, that should clear up any dry joints that may be there (which is what usually causes things to stop working after a short time).

it would seem as though the problem may not be with your soldering but the modchip itself, however not in the literal sense.. im assuming it was a X3 and not an X3CE, and im also assuming you did not use the alt v5 cable?, is thats the case did you insulate the pin on the X3?
i'd personally check out the x3 for track damage and go from there.
it's a shame your not in the uk, i'd fix it for free.

Thanks m8. I will try to add some fresh solder, hopefully that will kick over the mobo.

I used the alternative cable and I was working with X3ce at the time. The xbox worked for a couple of hours. But like I said, it screwed while I was transfering my backups to pc. I noticed my pc lost connection and I went by the xbox and saw that the xbox had orange led flashing. After powering it off and back on, it started doing that frag with or without chip. I installed that chip in another 1.6 and worked without problems. but the first mobo is still fragging. Seemed like it over heated or something, but the fan was pluged in. I did thou have the xbox open and the hard drive laying on top of the dvd-rom just for 2 hours, cause I was gonna replace it with another hdd after I was done backing it up.

I'm having same problem as you... total frag with modchip or without, so I guess some mobos have issues which are rendered more critical with a modchip installed. I am lucky the big store where I bought the console from has salesmen that are not too clever and they exchanged my box without even looking at it. Now I just don't know if I want to try the same chip on this xbox or not.

i was just about to sell my xbox to a friend, and i was copying over my game saves and whatnot, and i lost ftp connection.....then i tried turning the xbox back on and i got the standard green flubber screen (i had mine changed to yellow in x3) plus the light on the switch pannel wasn't on.......this was working for a few months now without any problems.....i too had the top off and cdrom out but i had a fan blowing on it just in case it got too hot....

all my solder points seem good, will recheck them....i also tried grounding out my D0 point and then the xbox FRAGS...im not really sure where to go from here.....i tried another chip (an aladdin chip) and that frags as well....i might try the wire install just to make sure i am making a good contact on the board
