i have got the chip and LCD screen installed sucesfully i am wondering about a few things that have to do with my BIOS flash options

1. whe i flash my BIOS wil it over wright the 3.0.3 or the 3.0.4 bios that is already on the chip if im not carful rending a future flas inpossible?

2. i see a lot of places that say we only have LEGAL BIOS what is an ILEIGLE one? is an ileigle BIOS onte that i kan use to save games to my HDD and boot non licensed meteral (these are 2 of the things im after botting LEGITIMITELY owned games and/or saving them to my HDD)

3. i would like to play w/ linux on the xbox im assuming the linux BIOS is the way to go due to the fact i do not have to install it to my HDD? (answer only if u have played w/ xbox linux please)

4. in the flash BIOS tutorial i only see one settin for the 1MB flas (ON ON OFF OFF OFF) i know that i can also flash a BIOS as small as xxxKB how do i acess and flash to those banks insdeaed of using all of my 2MB BIOS storage on only 2 boot methods?

5. What BIOS or DEV programs will make the most use of my LCD and how do i turn it on?? is this somthing i kan possibly write/alter a BIOS from an existing one (such as a BIOS that stores games to the HDD) to show what game i am playing on the LCD screen (kinda like the VMU for the DRAMCAST console)

6. i have also been looking into a BIOS to flash to my chip but im not shure what all is compatible with my chip (X3 CE) are all BIOS that is compatible with an Xecuter chip compatible with my chip?

You should be able to get your backup bio flashbios by power eject at same time
if not then when you startup your xbox with the switch to say on on off off off and you get flashbio screen then before you flash the bios onto the chip you should change the switch to off on off off off without rebooting xbox then flash your bios to the chip and if you get flashbios on settings off on off off off then change it to on on off off off without rebooting xbox then flash bios to chip
you need the bios called X3 3294 for you to play backups there are two
X3 3294 for the v1.0 to v1.5 xboxs
X3 3294 v16 plus for the v1.6 and v1.6b
so you will have to find out what xbox you have before flashing bios

with the linux you can flash two bios to the x3 chip so you can run two dashs so you can flash the linux bios too the second free bank as long as you have a working backup power eject
as for LCD XBMC and DVD2XBOX use lcd and the x3 bios is need to run it

those are the only 2 banks to save a BIOS to? Than why in the heck are there 4 switches to the chip insdead of just a bank one and a bank 2 ?

the chip main bank is 2mb in size
the x3 bios is 1mb 2x1mb=2mb
you can put a 256k bios on the chip 8 in total
the two bank setting i gave you will find a flashbios that works for your xbox flashbios 3.0.1 is on banks 1234 on on off off off
flashbios 3.0.3 is on banks 5678 off on off off off
this is used if you can not get flashbio on backup bank that 256k by power eject at same time if you have a v1.6b xbox flashbios 3.0.1 will not work so thats why there on the main bank as well flashbios 3.0.1 for all but v1.6b xbox
flashbios 3.0.3 for all xbox but not the v1.6 xbox
so you have too find the one that works for your xbox

no not really i knew no matter what chip i bought i was going to have to flash a BIOS to it the xecuter seemed like the most bang for my buc due to the multipole BIOS functions the usb ports and the lcd screen that are all able to be added to it i just needed to understand it a little better is all

by this do you mean that it is mearly inpossible to make the chip usless due to the fact there is always a stock BIOS on the chip that i can acess?

And what is this thing i hear about pressing the white button durring boot up to acess the backup Flash BIOs?

if you find flashbios when you push power eject at same time and get backup bank that has flashbios on it then you will not need to worry about witch bank you flash but if not do not flash over the flashbios thats on the main bank of chip
the white button is used when you put the x3 bios on your chip theres guide below about x3 bios

You have 8 * 256KB (2MB total) banks which you can use many ways, but to make the most use out of it it is best to use the X3 Bios which is 1MB, so it takes up half of your 2MB bios.

Yes it will, but make sure you are able to boot up to the backup bios which is FlashBIOS 3.0.1. If you have a 1.6b, make sure you update it to 3.0.3.

FlashBIOS is legal.
X3 Bios is illegal as you all the things you want to such as use homebrews and run backups... etc. This is also the bios which enables your X3LCD.

You don't need to use the linux bios, there are many ways to install it.

I tried both bios methods, and live linuxCD and FTP. live linux one is the easiest just burn and boot off a CD. FTP was probably the next best and
you can just run it like an application without needing another bios.
Using GentooX at the moment.

Check out the switch settings.
I have 4 bios's plus backup bios on my Xbox, just for playing around with.
Bank 1-4: Latest X3 Bios
Bank 5-6: X2, wanted to check this out.
Bank 7: EvoX M8plus, was checking it out
Bank 8: Spare for playing with. Had Linux bios.

Backup Bios: FlashBIOS 3.0.3

My aim first would be to get X3 BIOS on and use that first. Then go to Bios Tools in there and flash the other banks, the switch settings are also listed in the X3 bios as well where you can name the banks.

X3 BIOS enables it. You can change the text here. Can't do much while playing games.
Probably get the most use out of it using XBox Media Center (XBMC).
Avalaunch works too.

Any FTP client you are comfortable with. A recommended one is FlashFXP, but it is not free. You can also use a web browser to flash your bios.

Not from FlashBIOS. Flash via HTTP, HDD or disc only from there.

After you update with X3 3294 bios, you can FTP flash to other banks.

ok now im having issues connecting via lan for the inital flash (i collected everything yay ) i havent gotten may answers on how to create the network (im using a hub by the way) some sites say i need to have evox already installed to do it but im assuming thats because the way thay are telling me how to do it is with a mod chip that is not lan flash compatible i did find one site though (here is the link: http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/pc-xbox-ip-conf.php )is that what i need to do (also if it matters im on a diel up connection) messing w/ these setting will not mess up my internet connections will it?

What is connected to the hub?
You don't need anything else to flash except FlashBIOS which you can follow the tutorial.
All you need to be able to do is obtain an IP address, or set it manually if you can't get one.

ive gotten as far as obtaining an IP for my xbox it falls back on the default IP
how do i set the IP for the pc to recognize the xbox though i type the default IP into my browser and it just says its unable to locate it .
Do i need to configure any thing under my network settings?

Default Xbox IP is 192.168.0.99 ?
So your PC needs, 192.168.0.X

X which can be 1,2,3,4,5,6... 254? well...just less than 255 and not the same as 99.

To configure your PC, (Assuming Windows XP), get into your Ethernet cards IP settings
Click to:
Control Panel -> Network Connections
Local Area Network X (One connected on the same one as the XBOX)-> Properties
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Properties.
Select Manually Configure or something

And enter in IP Address, 192.168.0.100 or similar.
255.255.255.0 as subnet mask...
the rest doesn't really matter.

OK, apply.. etc...
reboot if neccessary...

and see if you can communicate with your Xbox, give it a ping or type in the 192.168.0.99
in Internet explorer.
