You can leave it.. run it.. see what needs to be changed and its pretty easy to follow..
I wouldn't change much there at all... since most my things are in
E:\Games, F:\Games, E:\Apps and so on... and that will search those directories and plot all your applications in the Applications menu.
The rest can pretty much stay the way it is... unless you want added shortcuts and to define an IRC or telnet settings...

I can't explain anything here, I've never learnt XML, all I know is you change a few things and it works fine.
There are examples of what you can do.. and the comments explain the tags...

ok i dropped the avalaunch.xbe into the c: drive along with the XML file(which i didnt modify what so ever) and for some reason i cant seem to acess it w/ flash FXP or w/ avaconfig (trying to use avalaunch v 0.49.3 xmas edition) any one have any ideas where im going wrong all the XML scripting is on this thread also if some one knows how to read/alter it so i kan make this damn thing work right it would be greatly appreciated (starting to think along the lines of this SLAYERS evox auto installer that ive herd so much about doesent seem as interesting as avolaunch but semms a lil easyer to install)

TBH, I have no idea what you are doing...
I thought it was simple as ftp'ing across to C Drive, and setup bios to boot to dashboard... or running it as an application...

Try auto installer delux instead of Slayers then... that has all dashboards there..

Okay, I realised what you are going on about...
I'm not having a good day today... and you need to configure your network settings in avalaunch like you did for X3CL.. and so on..

Modify the network settings below to the usual... static IP address
You don't have to do this the hard way....
You can go to settings -> Network and edit it all there... without touching a single text editor.

<network setup="1" type="dhcp">
<ip>
192.168.1.121
</ip>
<subnet>
255.255.255.0
</subnet>
<gateway>
192.168.1.1
</gateway>
<dns1>
195.159.0.100
</dns1>
<dns2>
195.159.0.200
</dns2>

You also might want to look at this: http://www.w3schools.com/xml/xml_whatis.asp :)

im back to working on my xbox projects and am having an issue w/ my dash (was getting irritated so i took a lil break and played w/ the ps2 homebrew scene a lil more).

ok now im running into an issue involving the FTP server in the lower left hand corner of the avalaunch screen im getting an error which reads as the following: no link than an ip addres 0.0.0.0 errx appears.
Ive been through the settings left everything as default all the ip settings are there what is going wrong now??? (ps added the "media folder " and the "shoutcast folder" folders to the c:/ directory in my xbox seems to have solved a lot of my issues but am still having a problem connecting via FTP to avalaunch)

any idea what the error is i have next to my ip adress in my avalunch dash?
(the error simply shows my set ip adress for the FTP server than says err)
should i be worried about it??

thanx for telling me the directorys to install stuff i am working w/ a stock hdd but am only in the experamenting stage (mainly because i cant afford a 200 - 250 GB hdd) i just want to make shure that i know exactly what im doing b fore i finnish creating my FINAL hdd.

Now as far as games go what is the average amount of space that games take up on the hdd? What size hdd do u recomend for storing hdd games AND media(i.e. .avi, .mp3, .wma, .mpeg, ect.).

What i am wanting to do is have a number of games and also media from my pc (taking up valuible space on my pc also may i add that i cant watch on anything other than my pc) on my hdd based on description on what i want to do with my xbox what are your recomendations (as far as hdd size)?

Don't worry about the error, especially if you can FTP now becoz you know it works and not an error. Its probably just trying to assign an IP address but realises it has one.... ?

250GB I think is fine, but bigger the better for storage of course.. just not too big since of the partition limit so no more than 450-500GB.

Install XBox Media Center and you can watch any videos and play all your media from your Xbox. You can stream off your network too so media doesn't have to be on your hard drive.

Games average? 3-4GB.. A DVD size.
Stock Hard drive: 8-10GB.

as far as that go,s is there any way around the hdd limmitations (just outta curosity more or less i kant afford a 500 GB hd as most ive seen are about $350 USD) (pretty much a rule of thumb i've figured was almost anything over 250 GB is starting in the $150 USD range)
but yeah in closing thanx you 2 the help was appreciated

Do i need to creat an apps and games folder or will the dash automaticly detect them as what thay are (im also assuming that emulators go in the e:/ folder also)?

This question may be kinda dumb but i want to be shure of what i am doing before actually doing it thanx again DJBOOBY an Poida^ for all the help and sticking it out w/ me for so long (no matter how dumb the questions may seem thay still help out a noob like me ALOT).

You don't need Evox.. its just a recommended newbie dashboard.

If you can FTP, you can install what ever you want... and burn CDs too if you have a file manager....
and yeah, create folders if they don't exists.
Your dashboard will only search in them for xbe files.
Applications, games, emulators and roms in E/F/G... or however you want to organize them.
C is usually for system files and dashboards, but I guess you can throw other stuff in there.
