I say give up on Linux becoz its pretty useless unless your PC is a 486.
I don't touch it unless I'm desperate or want to show off..
There are alot of methods of running linux and the instructions vary with each distribution. You don't need much space to run it too... varies from 50MB to 4GB...

GentooX Home is very complete and has pretty much everything.
Its very slow if you use KDE windows manager and requires 4GB.
Instructions are all in the image file, I think FTP is the easiest installation.
You FTP a few files over and run it like an application from the dashboard.

xDSL is handy and the basics if you just want to play with the operating system.
Only 50MB!

Play all your media, check the weather, surf the net... ?
XBMC is what most people use a modded Xbox for... streaming divx off their PC.

ok i thought i was set i let my xbox set turned on and it went ape sh*t on me it automatically rebooted to a black and white screen and it was doing the whole rolling frame thing like it was a PAL game or some sh*t i haven a clue WTF is going on here it even does it w/ the chip off what gives here??

no i didnt change any thing it was just sitting at the X3 config live screen than decided to restart all by its self into PAL im going to try somthing called Enigma Video Switch Disc on it i was told about it in an IRC channel i will soon see if my xbox some how got switched to PAL w/ out me knowing it

ok Enigma Video Switch Disc worked but my question is how did it get switched to PAL?? is there a button combination i can push to make it switch that could have been pressed (as my controller was sat on during the duration of the reboot)??

dont know of one but you may have set x3 to default by pushing A B X Y
