Hi, I bought a while back a chipped xbox, which ran some odd dashboard but booted when I tried it. Ive just gotten round to sorting it, and put into a new blank hard disk ready to take gentoo and mythfrontend.
When I reboot, it just gives me the classic you need to contact service page, not surprising since all the partitions dont exist.
If I tap for blue xecutor, it comes on then goes off 3 times, then stays on and flashes the led red then green alternately. Ditto if I set the bank switches for the second bank (1-off 2-on 3-off 4-off).
I tried the cdrom and power mode, and it refused to boot then too, which is where it gets weird.
I popped it open, and its a 1.6 motherboard thats had a rebuild done with hookup wire in the usual way, but the 5v lines werent connected as per the xecutor instructions (the single red went to the back of the motherboard, and the inline red went up to the front voltage reg leg 1.6 point).
I noticed the board didnt have the 5v led lit, so I redid the rebuild to be sure (and put in some wire for a lifted track, someone must have been using grandads wooden handled soldering iron to fit it originally...) and put the wires back to where hte instructions say.
Now its got both voltage present leds on, and its obeying the front panel flash protect by changing the colour of the led on the pcb etc.
If I reboot with power+cdrom I get a flashbios 3.0.1 screen regardless of which bank is selected, and enabling http flash update, it lets me send a mod .bin to it via http then the progress bar moves etc on the main display then it turns itself back off.
On repowering with a short power button blue mode, it just sits there turning itself off and on 3 times still, then flashes the light red and green with no composite output. I can still access the flashbios by using eject+power mode.
So, some questions, does the fact that it can boot up to the flashbios screen and use it indicate that the rebuild on the header pins area is working fine?
Is it likely reversing the two red wire locations has damaged something in the flash chip?
On the 1.6 version, should both reds be connected, or just the extra one in the second plugsocket?
If the flash is dead or bad, its a new modchip yes? seems that the flash chip is surface mount soldered to the pcb?
I seem to recall it doing this since I purchased it, but never before needed to put unsigned stuff on it, so not a new phenomena.
Whats been going on to allow it to boot the executer dashboard all this time if the mod chip hasnt been working? could it have been softmodded after abondoning attempts to get the xecuter working? if so why am I getting a service light in standard bios boot mode? or has someone been keysigning 3rd party dashboards since Ive been out of it??
lots of questions, hope still current enough hardware to get some help
