I just installed a X3CE in my v1.0 XBOX. The first time it started, it came up with the flash bios 3.0.3 screen. I selected http and installed X3 3294.bin, and it successfully flashed eprom (displayed yellow bar, green bar, then turned itself off). When I turn it on, it beeps and won't boot. If I hold in the button it will boot into the microsoft one with no problems.

I also tried installing from the backup rom and get the same results. I've tried flashing to both banks with the same results. I also tried flashing without the front display connected.

Yeah, get the bios off of xbins, and then Boot backup (power and eject)
and flash from there, remeber to have the switches in the right spot.

Hmm. I and a friend just went through the same thing... BUT.... we had two Xecuter 3 CE ModChip w/ 1.6 PCB chips. One worked, one didn't.... I flashed mine with 3294, bank one, and it makes a sick beep sound and shuts down ...., tried the second bank, same thing... Was able to user older 256K bios no issue. Restore bios also worked.

NO PROBLEM on the second MOD chip. We tried them both in two different 1.0 boxes with the same results. It's not a 1.0 problem. I think it's a Xecuter 3 CE ModChip w/ 1.6 PCB problem, perhaps a bad batch of mod chips........ I'm trying to get to the bottom of this....Under microsopic scuritiny, I have not seem any solder issues on the mod board. Will follow up if I figure it out....

p.s Anyone know what the potentiometer on the mod chip does?

I finally got mine to work, I had some bad solders on a couple of pins. Once I fixed my soldering, I was able to flash with 3294

What did you have to resolder, the dual row connector, or the D0 line, or something else? If you remember what pin(s) it was, this could be helpful to me diagnosing the bad board. Thanks!

phat_man, dono send me up the bomb !

I will add info to what phat_man said. I am the other ...

After doing the pin-header install of the chips into each of our 1.0 boxes, everything was fine. Booted to flashBios 3.0.3 fine. We then successfully http-flashed both x3CE boards with X3_3294.bin into banks 1-2-3-4.
Tried to boot into LiveConfig ... mine worked, his didn't. Made that sick whiny sound for a second or two, then switched off. So we tried reflashing into 5-6-7-8, still no good. Then I tried older bios, X2_5035 (512k) into bank 1-2 and also 3-4, those booted fine. Erased those and tried X3_3029.bin and back to no joy. So, it seemed like it was a 1024k issue. The problem only shows when we attempt to boot a 1024k image. Then we opened our two boxes again and traded x3 chips. This time, mine was the box that whined and shut down. His booted fine to LiveConfig. So the problem is definitely somewhere on the x3 board.
We examined it with a lab microscope but couldn't find any obvious bridges. Next I think we will be looking perhaps for a lifted pin on one of the chips. Or maybe a cold joint somewhere, but you don't normally see those on these reflow boards. I would be VERY surprised if it was the chip itself. In case it is no easy fix, the modchipstore.com has already offered to take the bad one back for exchange, so that is cool.

bbr, it would really help us if you could identify exactly where you found your bad solder point on your board.

thx

DJBOOBY, I confirm we are using the correct 3294 bios for our box. We have version 1.0 boxes so we are using the plain X3_3294.bin, not the v1.6-1.6b version.

To follow up on this:
I sent my misbehaving X3CE back to ModChipStore under RMA. They kindly sent back an entire new kit within a week. I simply swapped the new chip into my existing pin header install. The problem must have been on the old chip or the X3CE board, because the new one boots the 1024k bios from bank 1-2-3-4 like a charm now.

Same problem here, ive done several xecuter 3 installs, i have a version 1.0 xbox and xecuter 3 ce, the install was easy but after i flashed the chip with bios 3294 for 1.0-1.5, i cant boot with the chip enable, i get the "beep" that usually indicate wrong bios and the xbox shutdown right after. Its my second version 1.0 xbox install, the first one worked perfectly with the 3294 bios, can i have a bad chip??? I will try the 2914 bios tonight.....do the 2914 support config live???

Thanks a lot

Do you mean the little notched wheel? It's for adjusting the brightness of a X3 LCD if it's connected.

This sounds like a problem with pins 13/14
