Hi,

I've just recieved my x3cp in the post, yay! I've installed it all and it looks sweet, but I seem to have a problem with the lcd. When its turned on (In config live) it just displays 2 black bars, (both lcd lines). I've tried changing the brightness in the config live, as well as the dial on the chip. Any Ideas? Is this a faulty lcd?

Any help would be apreciated

Edit: I will say that the backlight is on, just the top 2 lcd rows show just black lines, its enabled in config live.

I've taken 2 photo's which are attached. The new control panel is awesome except the hole caused by the missing x3lcd. :)

Any suggestions?

the default message is www.teamxecuter.com, which is enabled, it doesn't show anything other than the 2 black bars, its enabled in config live, avalaunch and xbmc, I've triple checked every setting I can think of :)

I know you said you have done it but it looks like the contrast is up to high what happens to the display when you toggle the wheel on the X3 chip

The last thing I would check is that none of the pins were bent on the display connector. I know when I had to reconnect my front x3 switch panel I accidently bent some of the pins because they are so fragile.

Yeah, i'll check that, BaldBouncer has also suggested I check for shorts on the back of the lcd, I've just bought another x3lcd from BB (Another mate wants some modding) so I'll try that. I have noticed thou that the eject/Reset PCB is far too close to the wires coming from the x3lcd on my 1.0 xbox for my liking, I'm wondering if its the connecting wires, but the pins are SO small that I can't get a tester on it!

I just finished troubleshooting the same problem, plus my backlight was dead. I eventually found that there were two bad solder joints at the lcd socket of my X3. One was the 5v for the backlight, the other a data line. Continuity checked good with the connector unplugged, but failed with it plugged in. Once I figured out what connections were bad, I touched them up with my 15w iron (and a large magnifying glass). My XLCD is working perfectly now :D

Yeah, I had a feeling it may be a continutity error on the socket on the chip. Luckly i'm modding a mates xbox, so he's now got the chip with unhappy lcd socket, and i've got the new x3. Both happy.

I'm glad to hear it worked out for you. My X3 was given to me in exchange for a couple X2.6 installs. There was an initial rush on X3 installs back then, but all I've done since were X2.6's. People around here are getting cheap on me LOL

With no way to return the chip, and no install orders to swap with, I had to repair my X3. All my past PS2 experience really helped out on the soldering :)
