Xapt3r problem, v1.1 XBox has solder-filled LPC

I don't know how to solder at all, so I decided rather than risk it I would just get the Xapt3r adapter. I read that v1.0s would have solder-filled LPCs that would have to be dealt with, but I looked under system info and serial number, both of which indicated that I had a 1.1. I just opened my Xbox, however, and the LPC holes are still filled with solder, and I have no idea how to desolder stuff. I read that the rivets included with the Xapt3r were for exactly this situation, but I can't at all figure out how to use them to circumvent this. How do I install this without having to desolder anything?

EDIT:
"Those little extra pins in the baggy are rivets; they’re optional if you plan to use the adapter on a v1.0 Xbox because the LPC holes are filled with solder. They provide a flatter surface when fitting to the v1.0. If you do have a v1.0 I recommend you toss them out, de-solder the LPC holes and use the Xapt3r without them, you will have a better and tighter fit.."

This is the post that I was referring to. I thought the rivets were to make a better connection, but this implies that you can use them instead of desoldering the holes... ?_?

Look, desoldering is easy. In fact, the entire X3 install is easy. Just go get a 15W soldering iron and some desoldering braid. Touch the braid to the solder in the hole and put the iron on top of the braid.

I realize that desoldering these points is likely much easier than I anticipate. However, I'd still like to know how to do it without having to desolder if possible.

i desoldered my 1.0 with a safetly pin, my soldering iron, and a solder vacuum (had no flux or anything else)

sucked as much heated solder out, then held the pin in each hole while the iron kept the tip of the pin hot while i wiggled hte pin.

amazing stuff... my first time handling a soldering iron too

hmmm.... my friend had this problem when he first installed his lite+. he went ahead and did the install and everything went smooth. now i'm not 100% sure this wouldn't cause a problem with the xapt3r but his chip worked fine and hardly ever fell out of alignment. So it's you choice but i don't think there'll be a prob.

It seems like the bottom of the adapter is supposed to go through the holes that the solder has filled... are you basically saying that he just placed it on there regardless and screwed it down? That seems like it would bend the pins or something, or make it so it would dislodge really, really easily. Maybe desoldering is the best thing to do after all...

yeah that's what he did. since the pins are pogo pins they won't break off. they're supposed to bend a little, but the choice is yours and soldering isn't hard. but what's funny about my friend's modding is that he got tired of the chip falling out of alignment and eventually flashed the TSOP. go figure. :p
