If I get a XBOX that is NOT version 1.6, can I install a X3 using the Xapt3r without the need to solder anything - and will the Xapt3r remove any of the normal featues?

Could I still use the Xapt3r and solder the HD and LAN activity lights so that they work... AND if you use a Xapt3r do you need to remove the motherboard from the XBOX or can you install the chip without removing it?

yes to both questions, but:

you need to remove the motherboard for the lan and hdd lights
if you're soldering in the lan and hdd lights, you might as well do a complete solder install!

Was that a yes you will need to take out the motherboard (if not doing HD and LAN status lights) or a yes you will not need to...?

1. If you want to solder the hdd and lan lights then YES you will have to remove your motherboard.

2. If you're satisfied WITHOUT the lan and hdd lights, then NO you will NOT have to remove your motherboard.

Clear?

I'd do the hdd and lan lights if I were you though. They are just about the easiest (if not THE easiest) solder points on there. Hell, all you even have to do is heat up the existing solder and shove the wire in there. I added a little more solder on the pins just to make sure I had enough to keep it down, but you could get by without even doing that. So easy, and it adds more blinky lights!! :p

It all seems easy until you remove the motherboard, at that point it begins to looks like there is much more chance of me breaking something.

I've done quite a bit of soldering before but I no longer have a soldering iron or solder. I may do that if you think it is easy removing the motherboard and replacing it - I like the idea of the Xapt3r lighting up when I have installed it properly - I would need that kind of indication :D

id recommend u do the lan and hdd pts...they are the easiest, the points are big and gap between diff points is big as well. Not so for everything else...especially if u have a 1.6 (like i do)

for the money it costs to by an xapt3r you could by an iron i have an xapt3r and im not happy with the fit on the pins the chip seems to fall to one side so i'll be soldering it in soon.

dwight, all Xboxs in Australia have been 1.6 for a long time so unless you are gunna buy one second hand you will not be able to use the Xapt3r.

In my opinion you would be better off doing the soldering (it aint hard and is needed for HD & LAN LED anyway) and spending the money on the Pro Switch instead as its very funky looking!
