Anyone have any suggestions on getting the opposite side of the xapt3r to stay down. When I say opposite I mean the side away from the screw. I tried elctrical taping the side down and it works until i move the xbox around a little then it frags. I thought this was supposed to be easy. I should have just soldered it but i would like to know if anyone found a way to do it?

i've been waiting for someone to agree that there is problems with the xapter...

i had the same problem.. just not with the xecuter 3 version.. what i did is cut about a 1 inch square of foam, i put the xapter in the way your supposed to.. put the mod chip on it and then put the foam ontop of the mod chip

when its all done you end up with a piece of foam being pressed onto the modchip/xapter by the dvd drive...

may sound bad but it works for me and im leaving it that way..

if someone knows how to get it flat, let us know

i saw pictures of the xapt3r on the teamX site. but are u sayin that it lifts up on one side when u put the chip on? or did u mean something else?

yeah, lifting up describes it

the xapt3r wont sit flat, seems like the plastic on its bottom is pressing against a chip (on my 1.0 xbox)

Did you read the entire install method for the xapt3r? There was a part in their mentioning something about doing it a certain way or the chip opos off. Im sorry I dont remember where I read this, Gotta be a sticky or in a search, but I believe this is your problem.

When I get off of work today I'll search around for it some more and see if I can find it.

i figured a way to get it on my 1.0. just shave piece of the solderless off to make sure its not sitting on the chip i think it is the tsop. make sure you dont strip the screw on the bottom because it will also not hold the chip down good enough. hope this helps

You know, I have seen alot of "stripped hole" remarks and "How am I to do this" why hasnt anybody suggested just shaving the post off under the board and putting a small nut on the bottom of the sucker so its mounted to the board itself?

The screw isn't the problem - the problem is that the xapt3r plastic is too big and sits on top of the chip next to the screw... ugh... so even if it was screwed in flush to the board, the xapt3r is still lifted up by the corner of the chip.

Dammit, and I thought this would be an easy way to have a mod I can transfer between boxes, but it's not really "compatible" with my 1.0 box because of this... is there any way to have my xapt3r swapped out for a proper one(whenever it gets fixed, if it does...)?

Will have to examine this closer when mine comes in @ a week since my box is a 1.0.

Just a thought, what about using a hot glue gun and adding some glue to the backside of the board and covering the LPC and pins. The glue wont conduct electricity so it's not only a good way to insulate it, but it will keep it securely down.

i just shaved a bit of the plastic off under the xapt3r, and now i dont get anymore frags - the chip that used to push the xapt3r up is no longer doing so

ps - this was very easy to do, it took me maybe 10-15 minutes - used a sharp, new boxcutter and got it so the xapt3r is now almost entirely level with the motherboard

(still lifts up a little, but i didnt realize that the xapt3r had spring-loaded contacts - so no problems anymore)

After using a flathead screwdriver to shave off some of the plastic from the xapt3r, it now sits properly and has a solid connection. Connected the rest of the stuff and yea, it was done. I like the xapt3r, but I really don't like how I had to hack off some of it to get it to work due to a design oversight.

Um, no - the chip next to the screwpoint prevents the xapt3r from seating properly, it has nothing to do with how tight the screw is.(unless you can somehow crush the chip with the xapt3r to make room....) It's like trying to put a box on the floor with a brick underneath it. The current xapt3r guide doesn't apply to this kind of problem either - you really have to shave off some plastic for the xapt3r to fit like it should, or else you get an unreliable connection.

Update: mine on my 1.0 sits perfectly level and I didnt have to shave a thing.
