Hi, this may be the worst newb question ever.... but i just need some help installing the xapter 1.6 with my Xecuter 2.6 CE.

you see i just have a simple question about the install, when installing the chip, there are 3 wires that you have to solder that are SEPERATE from the LPC rebuild... (the D0, the HD and the LAN). now these wires have their own little plug that plugs into the chip seperate from the pin headers... Now when installing the Xapter do i not have to solder those wires? do i just leave that plug space empty? will it still work (eg: will the D0 still work.. and engage and un engage the chip if i dont use the plug specified for it???)

please help, i would like to do the install asap... so any help is appreciated!

Best Regards
Jan

The solderless adapter is absolutely that... it saves you from needing to solder anything. If so inclined you can add the 3 wire plug into the mix, although you don't need to do anything with the grey D0 wire. One of the arms of the Xapter already takes care of that. Without soldering this in the only thing you will be missing is the HDD and LAN activity LEDs on the switch board. These are pretty easy points to solder if you decide to go forward with it.

OK, I've setup the exact same setup as you so this should help.

1. You must understand that the D0, HDD and LAN LEDs that came with the chip is OPTIONAL in terms of installation. That is the chip will work without the need for these extra wires, all that's missing are the LAN and HDD LEDs on the switch won't ever light up. Just so you know, the Xapter 1.6 itself (if installed properly) already have connection to another alternate D0 point.
2. If you decide NOT to go down the soldering way then you can proceed without soldering the extra wires (HDD, LAN, D0).
3. If you decide to do down the soldering way, you'll have to open up the motherboard and solder the HDD, LAN cables ONLY (green and red). Do NOT solder in the grey D0 wire since this is not required. I cut my grey wire all the way right to the beginning. A few important things to know with this:
A. when soldering the HDD, LAN wires, make sure that you DON'T waste or cut any length from the original wires. If you do, you'll find that the wires are just a little short and they won't be able to reach the 2.6CE chip.
B. Cut the grey wire right to the beginning. If not, it could potentially create "short" problems.
4. Since you're using the Xapter for your setup, do NOT do the PCB rebuild as shown in some manuals. The PCB rebuild is required on xbox v1.6 PROVIDED that you're not using the Xapter method.

Good luck and post more questions if you don't understand.
