Ok, I gave up on installing this chip on my 1.0 xbox... there was solder plugging the lpc holes. So, now I am trying to intall this thing in a 1.2 with no solder in the holes.

I am installing the chip exactly how the instructions specify, but it simply will not work. If I push on the top of this chip any harder I am certain to crack the chip or the motherboard. I even put the rivets in the holes "for better connectivity"...

Here's the thing: the LED on the chip hasnt so much as even flickered on. This chip hasnt come close to showing any signs of life. Is it possible that I got a dud? More than likely I am doing something incorrectly.

My questions are these: has anyone gotten this install to work? Was it as easy for you as the tutorial suggests? Have you any suggestions for me? I am about to return this thing and try to hunt down a trusty "2.3 lite +"

Installing a 2.6 ce in a version 1.2 xbox is as simpple as the instructions says yes . If you are using the pin header simply solder it in and plug up the wires going to the switch and solder the "D0" point. the harddrive and network wires are optional and are not need to get chip to work. One thing you might wanta check that I have seen people do on there first install attempt is put the pin header in upside down. And this will casue the chip not to work because the pins do not make good conection with the chip. And a side note on the version 1.0 xbox it is alot easier to do a wire install on those simple heat the solder that fills te whole and press the wire threw it then do any touch up sooldering needed. Actually is about a fast or faster then installing a pin header in those models.
If everything looks good and it still does not work then yes it is possable you have gotten a bad chip or even a faulty led on the board but not probable.
