Turn off the firewall on your PC!!! then try.

get ccxgui (i think that is the name) as a SMB server prog to run on your PC. look for it at XBMC website

Make sure that you have simple file sharing turned off on your desktop and set up a username and pass on your comptuer for your xbox.

Edit this in your xbmc config file to match your network settings.
Where default username is the name you set up on your desktop and default password is the password you set up.

<samba>
<workgroup>WORKGROUP</workgroup>
<winsserver>-</winsserver>
<debuglevel>0</debuglevel>
<defaultusername>-</defaultusername>
<defaultpassword>-</defaultpassword>
</samba>

Open ccXgui. drag and drop the folders you want to share into the window. rename the shares if that is easier (ie. Music). Also I would tell it to run as an NT service so it will auto run.

Then open your XBMC congif.xml and add the path:

<bookmark>
<name>Music</name>
<path>xbms://(PC-IP):1400/Music</path>
</bookmark>

Just a side note, ccXgui does not like it when you change dirs to share, so drag in all the ones you want the first time and let it be.

Florida, HOOAH!
You don't even need to have file sharing disabled.

Also, I don't think anyone's going to give you step-by-step directions, Its a simple program. Just play around with it and eventually look in XBMC in the XBMC shares section and you should be all set.

SP1 is A-OK. I think I tried SP2 and it did kill my shares. That is probably your problem.

Don't go to 2000, just go to XP SP1

DON'T go back to sp1.... that is not a fix.

Do this:

Open My Computer --- Tools --- Folder Options --- View --- Scroll to the bottom and uncheck "Use simple file sharing" and close that window.

Now, open up the control panel and make a new user for your xbox to use.... maybe xbox for the username and give it a password.

Right click on the folder that you want to access from xbmc and go to "Sharing and Security"

Click the radio button to "share this folder" and click the "Permissions" button.
Make sure that "Everyone" has the allow Read permission checked.
Click OK

Now edit your xbmc config and in the samba section put the username and password that you created on the computer in the defaultusername and defaultpassword spots. Save that config and upload it back to your xbox.

Now try goign to your computer in xbmc.
