I want to use xbox media center to ftp files from my xbox to my pc.

(I have an xbox with a 2.3b lite fitted, I want to unfit the chip when I sell the XBOX so that it is legal. So I don't want to copy the xbmc to the hdd.)

So I was wondering, if I put XBMC on a DVD, the xbox should load it as a game when the chip is enabled right? Then I should be able to ftp while XBMC is running?

Make it into an ISO and burn it to a disc and it should work as a boot disc.

Turn the box on with the disc in the drive.

OK, I just tried it and evo-x said "unknown", but it was only 56mb on a 650mb disc, I know the disc reads, it's a re-writable and I have uses it before several times with my XBOX, so I guess the reason it didn't read was because I forgot to put a dummy file on the disc with it.

XBMC tries to make log files of startup info when it boots in the root directory by default (even when logging is disabled) so I am not certain how this will act. If you like give me 2 days (I am doing an out of town run for my 42" TV tonight) and I will see if this will work myself and let you know.

I didn't know that about XBMC. I knew it stored data in the tdata or udata directory's.

Evox will work if you change evoxdash.xbe to default.xbe.

I burned it with a 570mb dummy file this time, It didn't work when I put the disc in from statup like floppy said to do, in evo-x it said "unknown". So I opened up boxplorer, d rive, default.xbe and this is what I got:

XBMC FATAL ERROR
FAILED TO OPEN q:ENGLISH/STRINGS/LANGuage

Network cable unplugged trying again in 10 seconds

Something like that. So I think I'm gonna try evo-x as default.xbe

Thanks guys.

I'm using my xbox with the x3 and evo-x (lets call this xb1) to test the disc first 'cos my other one that I have just chipped with an xecuter 2.3b lite (lets call this xb2) does'nt load back up games when the chip is enabled. The startup logo still says microsoft too. I don't know what it's flashed with 'cos someone else did it for me, but when it was in my other xbox (xb1) it loaded backups fine.

Could someone help me with this?

I don't want to put evo-x onto the hdd beacuse I plan to unfit the chip and sell this (xb2) xbox as legal.

(XB2) reads the backup-game disc, it comes up with the xbox and microsoft logo when put in the dvd drive at the msdash, but it won't launch the game from startup or at the msdash.
