OK I have just installed my mod chip, Updated My bios file, installed my dashboard, and am now trying to install xbmc onto my xbox. Ive done some searching on a couple sites and i still dont know what partition apps like this should be placed. If anyone of you could be of assistance it would be great. Note im not being lazy ive been looking for this information for about an hour or so. Thanks in advance :)

You're almost there. Just create a directory on your F or G drive called "apps." Then, create a folder in that one called, "XBMC," and drop all the files directly into that one. Make sure the default.xbe is in the root of the XBMC folder. Then, you should be golden.

Your other option is to use Avalaunch as your dashboard (assuming you have internet access on your XBox). It'll download and install all your requried applications such as DVD2XBOX and XBMC.

Cheerio!

Thanks for the info by the way. So just to clarify i create a folder on drive f or g and then i put the files contained in the "xbmc-2005-02-01" folder in the folder ive created? Correct? And is this basically how i will be putting most apps on my xbox?

Yup. Exactly.

Avalaunch is quite amazing. It's really powerful. You can even install an older version, and it'll download/install all the nessicary stuff to make it current.

Avalaunch is miles better then EvolutionX. EvolutionX is not as pretty, not intergrated with the internet, and just plain cannot compare with the number of features. The only reason I believe that EvoX is still around/used is because:
A> It is easy to mess with the menu via a .txt document. Decent for noobies, and:
B> Some people do like the simple utiltarian look it offers.

My recommendation is for Avalaunch, but to each their own: you may prefer EvoX. Regardless, you'll need at least one of them to get your applications onto the box. (Well, assuming you are using an X3, you could use the Bios FTP feature... but we won't go into that. That's more information then you were asking for, but if you still want it, I'm more then happy to tell you! :))

First, FTP all the needed files to your C drive. Then, launch Avalaunch and connect it to your high-speed internet connection. Make sure it's on DCHP. Then, go to the network settings and select, "Update Dashboard." Easy as pie.

Hey,
Just wanted to throw out there that over on www.xbox-scene.com there is a whole forum dedicated to Xbox Media Center. Lot's of useful information there.

As for dashboards I'm not going to knock EvolutionX because it does have it's good points like trainers, ease of editing, etc... But it has not been updated for as long as I can remember. Over a year at least While Avalaunch it constantly updated.

since we are talking about dashboards, I was using avalaunch but today I installed unleashX. The skins on it are awsome, they are videos instead of just pictures.
