I am modding an xbox using a xecuter 2.6, and installing it on a 1.6 box ( that is what a walk through identification said). What is a 1.6 rebuild and 1.6b.

Any help would be nice.

Sounds like some terminology might be getting mixed up here?

As you know there are several motherboard revisions. They are typically broken down into three categories:

Version 1.0 - 1.5 - These motherboards all shared the same basic design. So fitting a modchip could be covered by a common set of instructions.

Version 1.6 - This is the biggest change to XBOX motherboard design. The change is mainly in the LPC. The LPC to the layman is the socket where the pin header / wire loom / solderless adapter are attatched. To put it simply the LPC on a 1.6 had basically been deactived and to get it to work you had to do an LPC REBUILD(this is what I think you mean by the 1.6 rebuild). See my notes on the LPC rebuild later.

Version 1.6b - Essentially the same as the 1.6. As far as installation of a modchip goes there is no difference. The LPC still needs rebuilding in the exact same way as on a 1.6. The difference are small, mainly changed in the people who manufactured the memory on the motherboard. This had an effect on which version of Flashbios you use - you have to use a different version of flashbios for a 1.6 and the 1.6b.

LPC Rebuild - So yes as I mention you have to do an LPC rebuild to reactivate the LPC bus so your modchip will work. It basically involves rerouting parts of the LPC to another point on the motherboard where they are active. Not a hard job as new Xecuter chips are now supplied with an LPC rebuild board which is very easy to install. If you choose solderless you do not need to worry as the LPC is rebuilt using the Xapt3r16 solderless adapter.
